Spooky, competent and TOUGH original arcade platformer from Digital Eclipse, who've released a number of great classic arcade collections. Would benefit from: -the ability to pause -a home screen menu with some basic display options -a way to exit the game without force closing -maybe a few bezel choices or the option to go without Otherwise, a fantastic new arcade game for anyone looking for a real challenge. If you enjoyed Analynn or Donut Dodo, you'll like this too! Happy to report it works great on Steam Deck and with a controller right out of the gate. Would be great on a cab and will definitely get some mileage on mine!
Video gameplay/review: https://youtu.be/SseB-EIrR-4 I thought this was an absolutely fantastic arcade game. It reminded me of experiences I had from childhood, playing arcade cabinets while waiting to go home with my mom from her work, or vising an arcade parlor. It was a fantastic bit of nostalgia that I certainly didn't expect to find. You have 4 unique levels, but once you kill the boss on the 4th you'll be thrust back into the first stage with a bit more difficulty. This process repeats until you inevitably get stomped by some enemy or killed by an in game obstacle of some sort. Gameplay is very easy to pick up, but it does take awhile for you to really feel like you've mastered it. Art and sound effects are fantastic, and it really does feel like I'm playing an arcade game that came out in the 80s. Controls are responsive, though there were times that it felt like I was skating almost as if on ice. I think it was perhaps just the level with increasing difficulty, but I don't know. The game also tended to start windowed for me, and I had to use Alt + Enter to make it go full screen. Not a huge issue, but there were no in game settings to mess with anything. Hopefully this is something that changes for further games in their planned arcade games. Overall I absolutely had a blast with this, and highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan of 80s style arcade games.
Candy Creeps is a very fun arcade game. Nice pixel art and original gameplay. There are three regular levels followed by a boss level. Beat the Pumpking and you start over with the second loop a bit more difficult. The game is a little bit flawed because apparently you can farm points and lives. Would have been nice if they had something in place to prevent farming. It would also benefit from an online leaderboard and a couple achievements.
Outstanding retro arcade game, another in Digital Eclipse's little known and underrated Arcade series. This frantic platformer captures the early '80s vibe perfectly from the music to the look to the difficulty. It's fun and lighthearted but also will make you want to snap your controller over your knee. Speaking of which, the game does have controller support even though it's not listed on the store page. You do have to ALT+F4 to exit the game, though. I wish you could "enter coins" to continue from where you left off as I have no idea if there's anything beyond level 3 as that's plenty hard enough to get to already. 8.5/10
If this is a sign of things to come, Digital Eclipse is going to give us an amazing little collection of brand new arcade games! Fantastic! ONE MINUTE REVIEW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vOFSj2tiDk
just...one...more...game.. very fun and polished spoopy game. also the art is killer!
Old school fun and a great arcadey game play. The graphics are looks great, the game is fun and addicting.
This game is good, but it lacks several features you'd expect a regular game to have. There's no settings, there's no way to skip a level, and the game exits to Windows when you want it to open main menu. Momentum isn't too good in my opinion, but it's personal tastes, perhaps. Overall, I enjoyed the gameplay, musics and, most notably, graphics. 8/10
Digital Eclipse <3
A horrifically fun little hop & bop arcade classic! Candy Creeps is an 80's arcade inspired, momentum based, platformer, that has you take control of the tiny teens Elma & Harper. Romp & stomp your way through 3 vividly colored and distinctly difficult levels as you pounce on pumpkins, avoid mummies, and dodge pendulums, all for the chance to take on the evil Pumpking and reclaim your stolen candy! This is a cute little game with a very charming premise and an even more charming presentation. Whats there isn't exactly plentiful or ground breaking , coming in at only 3 1/2 stages, but it is fun and does a really decent job at rekindling some of that good-old arcade classic vibes from years prior. If games like Namco's Mappy or Taito's Bubble Bobble are your cup of tea, then I think you'll find something to like here. It's not gonna set the world on fire or make anyone's top 10 list of all time, I'd imagine. But for 5 bucks, its a nice way to add just a tiny bit more holiday horror to your spooktacular-filled month in a fun and surprisingly challenging way. Happy Halloweeeeeeeeeen!
