[/h1] 가상의 윈도우 환경에서 “데스크탑 익스플로러”라는 게임을 플레이하며 숨겨진 진상을 추적하는 독특한 퍼즐 어드벤처다. 운영체제의 기본 기능과 프로그램을 실제처럼 구현한 인터페이스가 핵심이며, 단순한 컴퓨터 작업을 놀라울 만큼 신선한 퍼즐과 연출로 바꿔낸다. 공식 한국어는 없지만 유저 한글 패치가 배포되어 편하게 게임을 즐길 수 있다. 이미지와 텍스트에서 암호를 찾고, 파일 소스 코드를 확인하거나 이름을 바꾸며, 메모장, 그림판, 웹 브라우저는 물론 시계와 설정 같은 자잘한 기능까지 활용한다. 처음에는 다소 헤맬 수 있으나, 평범한 기능의 쓰임을 깨닫는 순간의 쾌감이 상당하다. 오류 화면을 활용한 심리적 공포 연출도 약간 작위적이지만 효과적이다. 인터넷이 연결되지 않은 제한된 환경을 퍼즐 설계에 녹인 점도 훌륭하다. 접근 가능한 영역이 좁아 자연스럽게 동선이 정리되고, 이질적인 발상을 요구하면서도 불필요하게 헤매게 하지는 않는다. 기록 프로그램 ‘크로노로그’로 수집한 자료는 스토리 이해와 퍼즐 단서를 동시에 제공해 게임플레이와 서사를 긴밀하게 연결한다. 일부 설정은 다소 황당할 수 있어도 전체 흐름과 결말은 깔끔하다. 운영체제라는 소재를 단순한 텍스트 퍼즐에 그치지 않고, 참신한 프로그램 활용과 절묘한 완급 조절로 확장한 수작이다. 독특한 퍼즐 게임을 찾는다면 강력 추천한다.

This game was so different from what I was expecting and I mean it in the best possible way. I am used to games like this teaching me couple mechanics just so I can learn how to play till the end, but this game? It intoduces new mechanic every single time you thought you already have been getting it! It has much more depth than I was expecting and figuring out who the people involved with the story were is a great deal!

A great game, but I'm too stupid to figure out a lot of these puzzles. Sorry for the refund.

Such a unique game: a lot of love went into this one. I love how it captured the nostalgia of an old Windows machine and how the puzzles manipulated that. I also did not expect a puzzle solving game about old PC files to be as atmospheric, creepy, and emotional as it was too. I'd thoroughly recommend you go in blind to this one. If you get stuck, take a break, come back to it, and you'll be surprised how often the clues are just staring you in the face. Had to change some of the graphics settings as the CRT lines were uncomfortable (just like they used to be!) and appreciated that option was available.

Fantastic game! Each "section" has fresh and unexpected mechanics with interesting (but not frustrating) puzzles. Hope this team makes another FakeOS game in the future!

The creepy atmosphere was bad enough, but then the assistant made a cheap jumpscare joke... I was on the fence about reviewing, since so much of this is personal taste, but that really felt like a slight.
