Played this game over on Itch, so the playtime Steam shows is not accurate. The art and music are nicely made, but the characters are unbearably generic and boring, and the plot is nearly non-existent. MC- you know the standard "pure" otome girl that's easily flustered by affection, fish-out-of-water in situations around her, and generally has the personality of cardboard for the sake of letting a player supposedly impose themselves into the situation better? Yeah, this is the height of such formulaic nonsense; with the excuse of her being a literal insulated angel. You've seen this MC in dozens of other Otome and hundreds of bodice rippers. It's the most tired of tropes; the one that has unfortunately inspired the nearly equally tired trope of the "sassy boss b!tch, who still has inexplicable moments of situational obliviousness and incompetent moments for the LIs to be useful and/or pull schemes, and drops the f bomb every other sentence to prove she's not the pure otome girl trope". And this game notably wants Abrahamic mythos flavoring, without actually delving into any religious complexities. Michael is your typical good little soldier of god with a heart of gold and mild mannered to those on his side; and ignoring all the atrocious/violent acts that are biblically attributed to him doing. He's just as one-dimensional as MC. Everything is stereotypical in his mannerisms, attitudes, even his blonde hair and white and gold outfit. He's exactly the sort of "white knight" design that Jamie Lannister in Game of Thrones was explicitly designed to lampoon and subvert. As for Ace? Yeah, he's your typical bad boy in borderline fetish gear. Even his backstory is boring. He didn't -actually- side with Lucifer, nor is he secretly maybe Luci himself. His supposed "bad acts" relate to sensuality/sex, which obviously a player will sympathize with and easily overlook because they're playing an otome and have less judgmental views on. And he'll flip his decisions and plans for making the pure little angel happy and having his redemption arc. The only person who will feel any conflict over pursuing Ace in this route are the hyper-religious folks with an unyielding sense of black/white morality. For normal folks, this is a great big shrug and "whatever" where you pick which cute guy to deal with for an hour or two depending on your reading speed. The dialogue is bog standard. When the boys are arguing with each other or interacting with others, their "witty" comments were ones I was predicting word for word about 50% of the time, and very close to what I guessed the rest of the time. The reactions they'd have to each other's barbs or the outside situations were just as paint by numbers obvious to happen. Because these aren't characters of their own- they're shallow dualistic archetypes. There's no actual moral dilemmas here. There's no actual plot except this vague nonsense with butterflies and wishes that are themes far better utilized in other otome games. There's time-skips of days or weeks between scenes where nothing productive happened, to try hiding just how little there is to think about, and ultimately force along an artificial sense of "you've spent a bunch of time with the boy off screen, so here's a new flirty scene that is totally not rushed and you completely earned." And -flirty- is all you will get for your efforts; as the game cuts to black after the most mild of insinuations of what's about to happen. Which, honestly, is probably a low key mercy for the reader, as you would likely think up something more scintillating than whatever equally bland and by the books romance scene the dev would have opted for if they did want to push this into more risque territory. Also, given the mentions of various pop culture quotes and media, and modern objects like phones and electronic gambling machines or Michael's highly ridiculous belly shirt at one point (because the archangel doesn't know current mortal fashion, haha, so quirky, right?)- one would assume we're in relative 21st century setting. But many other aspects seems like a hodgepodge of Victorian era aesthetics, just a shade off from being steampunk. So tonally it's confused on that front as well, trying to superficially be too many things all at once, and ultimately again rendering itself without any identity of its own. TL;DR- this otome is a distillation of all the generic boring otome tropes that have been kicking around for decades. Despite the promising art and music and teaser video, DUFE is every standard otome of safe-and-boring-good boy versus not-really-that-bad boy love interests that MC has to choose between that you've ever played with the serial number scratched off and a new patchwork skin laid over it. If that's what you want, the main game is free, so you won't lose money on it. But paying for the DLC to have more of the same is such a bad idea, and this sort of mediocrity really shouldn't be rewarded. If you liked the soundtrack, though, the OST might be worth purchasing if it's on sale, as that was one of the few decent parts of this game; the usual price is a bit much for the limited original content that provides, but musicians/sound directors deserve the paycheck.

Not sure if it was just the writing or the boring story but the game couldn't keep my interest. Maybe it's just for someone else, but I'd skip it and check out other free novels.
Deliver Us From Evil (DUFE) is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This e-book is all about the developer writing about his imaginary boyfriends, and yes, it's cringe turned to 11. But what should we expect from all of these high school anime club dropout fanfictions infesting Steam under the guise of being games when they clearly aren't? Don't blame the fish for swimming, but definitely ask what it's doing on the billiards table. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. Even though this is "free" (only superficially, the author has his hand out for a "soundtrack" donation and some other stuff, basically digital panhandling), it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the e-book peaked at only 10 concurrent readers... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. The funny thing is, if you wanted to print this book, you'd only need to print 10 copies to satsify the entire world's demand for it. Given how badly written this is, that's a remarkably high number. While this E-book is "free", you can get better quality, professionally written books and comics for free online (from places like Project Gutenberg) or from public libraries. Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
このシリーズをプレイしてみようかな、と思われたかたは 『Deliver Us From Evil (DUFE)』(このゲーム・乙女要素) とともに、苦手でなければ、 『Deliver Us From Evil (DUFE): Cadenza』(上記のDLC・複数愛要素) 『Deliver Us From Evil - Masquerade』(有料短編BLゲーム・BL要素) を、まとめてのプレイをおすすめします。

It's free. Deliver Us From Evil is a partially voiced visual novel about Ariel, an angel from Heaven, sent to Earth to try to understand the source of mysterious red butterflies that seem to be appearing in a human city. There she meets up with Archangel Michael and Ace, a human who seems to know she's an angel, to investigate the butterflies together. A divergent path is evident from chapter 3 and there are multiple endings to the story. Whilst there wasn't much depth, the voice acting and artwork was really good. The story did surprise me a little but the final CGs were quite pretty and the anatomy was good! I liked the characters - the clearly strict and lawful Michael and "bad boy" Ace (lmao) and I enjoyed the diverging paths. Additional DLC gives you access to a route with Keldran. Worth a play. It's short.
