Darkest Dungeon®

Though I've never beaten this game or made it through a single level of the titular darkest dungeon, I find myself coming back to this one. The characters, art, gameplay, and narration by the late and great Wayne June make it something very special. It's even still getting DLC years later, that should tell you something about how well this game has aged. Basically, you are an heir who is having to clean up the mess of your ancestor, who did a lot of crazy eldritch stuff among other things. How do you do this? By hiring a bunch of people to go out on adventures for you so you don't have to get your hands too dirty, of course! Managing the stress and health of your party members is very important; there's all kinds of nightmarish things they can encounter, like mushroom people, pig hybrids, and trapped treasure chests! There are a lot of different character classes, and each one has different pros and cons, backstories, even varying dialogue. If you're into dungeon crawlers and eldritch horror and don't mind a challenge, this is the game for you. Just don't get too attached to your party members... there are a lot of ways they can die.

Feels like playing an old school D&D campaign. Inventory management and risk assessment are high priorities. At first, I didn't really get why this was so well rated, but it's grown on me. Be careful, once you enjoy it, it can become addictive. Highly recommend.
