Hello, indie game developer. In this "Saw Trap", there is a wheel in front of you. Your challenge is to leave the room without reinventing it. It works fine. It's a perfectly good wheel. The door is unlocked.
Honestly, this game pales in comparison to the first entry in the title.... It's like they tried to make slay the spire but did it poorly.
This game got a good bit of hate for its differences from the first game. I don't see the differences as a bad thing; Darkest Dungeon II delivers a unique experience with recognizable mechanics and a fresh coat of paint. I'd rather have this than a nearly-identical game to the first. I can always go back and play the first game if I want to play it. All in all, I'm happy with this sequel.
A decent rogue-like with an excellent soundtrack, however a terrible sequel to it's (IMO) superior predecessor.
"Predictable, repetitive, boring" DD1 was incredibly yolo-RNG and it could screw you over endlessly with misses, dodges and just poor RNG. Sometimes you had no say in what was going on. Initially, I thought DD2 was designed to get around that, with its token system and such. But I was so, so wrong. DD2 is a repetitive "Use this team setup or die" simulator. There are multiple points throughout the game where certain types of abilities are MANDATORY or you are relying entirely on luck. If you try to run novel teams that don't have these SPECIFIC abilities, you just die unless you are very, very lucky. That makes the game INCREDBILY predictable and very boring. I just cannot bring myself to put any more hours into this. I've put 100+ hours into trying to make this game be fun, but it just isn't. You have zero creativity, zero variability. Honestly you should just read the wiki, use the recommended party for each boss/chapter and trudge your way through it. There is only ONE way to play the game, and you better like it. It pains me, a lot, because there's a ton to like about the game. The combat system is fun, the narrator still kicks arse, the visuals are amazing! The problem is that you just cannot explore any of the nuances of the combat systems because 2/3rds of the classes are virtually unusable. The Grave Digger is an absolute JOKE. Why bring her instead of a Highwayman? Each class feels like there was a great idea for the design, but they are woefully mis-tuned for most of the game, and with how much each boss design relies on having specific abilities, you are incredibly limited in what you can bring to a confession. I'll freely admit that the game disappointed me so hard with how limited it was in confessions I haven't even attempted Kingdoms mode. I just don't want to. I'm so tired of how utterly boring the design is, I just don't feel like giving the game a second chance. I might even go back to DD1, in spite of ragequitting that after like 400+ hours. You could argue I got my money's worth, seeing as I spent over 100 hours on the game, but it almost feels like a waste of time. The game has so much more to give, but I just don't feel compelled to explore it because its core fundamentals are flawed.
因为很喜欢第一代,看到差评也不信邪的买来玩玩看 也就美术和回合战斗有一代的味道其他的完全是另外的游戏,真的很失望
I don't personally understand why this game is mixed, this game requires patience. Don't hate yourself for losing, learn what didn't work and try something else. IT IS OKAY TO PLAY ON RADIANCE MODE! that speeds it up a bit more at the cost of a handful of progression points. If you really hate the Confessions mode, they offer a secondary game mode that is a fun minigame version of DD1. If you want to play DD1? go play that one! it is a personal favourite of mine, If you are unsure? Go play DD1 first before trying this one! This game is a bit slower, the stagecoatch is a stylish but tedious, they have an option to go faster. I also understand the new debuff terms are unclear, but it is only due to the changed combat system being based on a different combat system that DOES makes sense, I promise. In terms of gameplay, at least for confessions, I enjoy it a lot! the token system is weird at first but its simple and makes sense. once you suffer some punches to the face, you will start to learn how to synergize teams faster than you think, THEN, it feels like a heroic, last ditch effort to save something in this ruined world. its helped me face some fears and broaden my horizons in terms of games I never used to think are fun. Wayne June is still here(R.I.P The Legend),no, not the ancestor but there are some lines in this game that continue to stick with me: There remains a foothold out of this mire- now climb! I say give this game a chance. Pick it up on a sale! set everything to as fast as you want and READ THE TOKEN GLOSSARY if you dont know what something does. Just have a little patience, and I promise you might like it!
Beautiful and incredibly stylish game fundamentally broken in every gameplay aspect imaginable. A bleak, sad attempt at replicating the entirety of DD1 systems without ever understanding why and how they worked in the first place. Random rolls? Now they are everywhere, making any attempt at strategizing completely pointless. Just keep rolling until your party gets eliminated in one or two lucky sweeps. Perks and lasting effects on characters? Don't even think about them too much as every run you fail completely erases them. You start from scratch every time not because you made a mistake and overestimated yourself while choosing your battles. But because there is no way out besides pressing forward until you inevitably die and start over. Punishing difficulty? Sure, let's make it so most of the items are now blatantly harmful due to the negative traits slapped on top of them. What is even the point of having ~200 trinkets in the game if you don't ever want to use 70% of them? I really wanted to like this game out of pure admiration towards the developers at Red Hook. But I literally can't as this game is nothing more but a grotesque parody of DD1, failing both at bringing new roguelite experience into the classic formula and at preserving it in the first place. It is not worth the time you put into it. A real tragedy
I'm sure it's a fine game for people who haven't played the first game, but this is no "Darkest Dungeon 2". It's a completely different game that appeals to a completely different audience than the first game. I cannot recommend this game to anyone who played the first game. I really wish they would have just brought the design of the first game to another level instead of making this spin-off that should not be considered a sequel.
