Def a giant mix up from darkest dungeon 1 but still enjoyable in it own right Losing the estate still hurts tho rip Only negative is the loss of enemy variety Enemies just gain stats at higher levels so kinda stale after awhile
yeah. it gud

I love the first game more, but DD2 has its own charm. For one, it's a lot faster-paced. I can boot up a confession run and finish it in a single sitting. The specialized character paths are interesting and can drastically change a character's playstyle. However, the new player experience is miserable for the first couple of hours. With no Altar of Hope unlocks and your characters not having access to their full skillset, be prepared to lose several runs to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Also, the stagecoach driving takes way too long, even with faster game speed turned on.
Thinks I don't like: - Having to unlock each character's abilities one by one. It encourages blasting shrines on lower difficulties before pushing on to higher ones, which is not fun. One time I clicked on a Shrine of Reflection with Bounty Hunter and just wasted the whole thing. - Unlocking new items and trinkets gives those things to you for your next run, which makes it feel like a massive loss if you don't bring a team that synergizes with them. I also unlocked a ton of items on a run and immediately was over-encumbered and had to dump half my inventory. Not fun. - Bad quirk descriptions. Things like "Chatterbox" and "Darkly Curious" are negative quirks but descriptions don't tell you what they do. - Not being able to sell or trade. DD1 let you sell your trinkets, and the same should be true here. - Locking off characters in DLC packs for $10 apiece. Ugh. Things I like: - Trinkets have interesting synergies and enable cool playstyles. A trinket that massively increases max health but lowers damage works great on a tank character like the Man-at-Arms. I equipped my diseased Leper with the Sickening Silence trinket and watched enemies attack him and poison themselves to death. - Each character has options. Characters thrive in the right circumstances, but can get by in less ideal situations. - Art style is awesome. - Wiping a run sucks, but you still get some progress. You can also abandon a run and start over quickly.
I really do love this game, buy it on discount. Kudos to Red Hook for not disrespecting Wayne June's legacy, rest easy.
