Note: Dead multiplayer game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no players, no populated servers. This multiplayer-only game cannot be played as intended.
This is a simple multiplayer top down stealth action game where you work with or against other players to sneak onto a small low poly/minimalist obstacle course, stealth past guards sight cones and steal a briefcase. A simple premise implemented badly, it failed to attract any critical mass of players (mostly due to the unengagingly bad technical delivery). There's also a level editor, which is a welcome addition, but you'd be making levels for nobody. So, "Counter Agents" is a dead multiplayer game. Why did it fail? It's video game autopsy time! The chief cause of failure is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so. Competition amongst multiplayer centric games is extreme, and there's only a finite player base to appeal to. This game failed to reach any kind of critical mass and died as a result. Let's go into some of the reasons this particular game failed to appeal to gamers, despite the zero up front cost. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality minimalist low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. It's phoned in, it looks bad... gamers have a lot of games to choose from, and the first bite is with the eyes. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. This game is fairly dated at 9 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Pass on this one. There's no immediate financial commitment, but there are thousands of more compelling games on the platform that will give you a lot more enjoyment for your time.

I think the game is great for a few minutes of laughs with a few friends. I have done it with the max number of plays on one keyboard and it was fun.
A really simple, but fun little stealth game. Surprisingly challenging. It really is what it says on the tin. It's a fun, quick play and is accessible for players of all skill levels.
