A very fun vertical city builder. Uses a resource system similar to the anno series. Great graphics. I have not experienced any crashes. My only complaint is that the ship combat system is a boring card based system.
Corsair Cove changed my mind about city Builders Visuals: Absolutely Flawless! I've never really been drawn to city builders, but I decided to give *Corsair Cove* a chance thanks to its gorgeous art style and the original idea of building your very own pirate city. Being able to construct vertically and build towering settlements is incredibly satisfying, and it constantly reminded me of the *Pirates of the Caribbean* movies I grew up with. Unlike similar games such as *Frostpunk*, the pace here is much more relaxed, giving you plenty of time to admire the intricate architecture and watch the daily lives of your island's inhabitants unfold. The ability to zoom in extremely close is a huge plus for immersion, and every single building is packed with impressive details. Story The campaign will keep you hooked for dozens of hours. Every main quest, side quest, and random event is a little storytelling gem. Sometimes hilarious (special shout-out to Captain Jefferson!), sometimes epic, they're also reflected in the gameplay through a card-based combat system driven by dice rolls, clearly inspired by tabletop RPGs like *Dungeons & Dragons*. Gameplay You'll either love it or hate it, but imagining epic battles through the turn-based combat system—based on the cards played and the dice rolled by both you and your opponent—works remarkably well. Landing a critical roll, or completely botching one, adds a lot of tension and personality to every encounter. As battles progress, the scene evolves with beautiful illustrations featuring your captain and crew in the foreground. Combined with the tavern keeper's excellent narration and his wide variety of dialogue, combat remains engaging even after dozens of hours. The technology tree, called **"Ambitions,"** is both original and cleverly designed. Each of its four branches unlocks unique bonuses, buildings, and ships, but instead of relying solely on resources, progression is tied to achievements specific to each branch. For example, building a fleet of four ships earns me a point to spend in the blue branch. This system makes progression feel genuinely rewarding, especially if you're the kind of player who enjoys hunting Steam achievements or PlayStation trophies. Criticisms The game's greatest strength is also its biggest weakness: the incredible depth of its city-building mechanics and the way they interact with both your production chains and your population. With more than **134 constructible buildings**, over half a dozen different road types and transportation systems—each interacting differently with the terrain (cliff roads, cargo lifts, zip lines, and more)—the game is a true sandbox where you can endlessly optimize your logistics while creating the pirate utopia of your dreams. However, this depth can also become overwhelming. When resources start running short and your population begins to revolt, tracking down exactly which buildings are causing problems can turn into a micromanagement nightmare, especially once you've expanded across the entire island. Some gameplay mechanics and building descriptions can also be surprisingly difficult to understand. Whether this is due to the English localization or simply unclear design is hard to tell. Unlike a game such as *Baldur's Gate 3*, which explains virtually every mechanic with crystal-clear tooltips, *Corsair Cove* sometimes leaves you rereading building descriptions several times before understanding what they actually do. On the technical side, the game runs smoothly and looks fantastic, even on modest hardware. After forty hours of gameplay, I experienced only a single screen freeze. I did encounter another recurring issue: occasionally it's impossible to find the correct attachment point for cliffside buildings when trying to connect them to a road. I also think Limbic Studio should implement a clearer visual indicator for roads that aren't properly connected to buildings. Since the game relies so heavily on vertical construction, perspective can sometimes make these mistakes difficult to spot. Final Verdict *Corsair Cove* is one of those games that unapologetically embraces its developers' vision instead of trying to fit neatly into "market expectations." As the saying goes, *if you try to please everyone, you'll end up pleasing no one.* It feels like a breath of fresh air compared to traditional city builders, blending survival elements reminiscent of *Frostpunk* and *Anno* while introducing its biggest innovation: **verticality**. Here, you can't simply reshape the landscape to suit your needs. Instead, you must adapt to the terrain and work with the island's natural relief to create the most prosperous—and most beautiful—pirate city possible. A few frustrating flaws remain, such as buildings that don't always connect properly and a management system whose complexity can occasionally become overwhelming. But if you love pirates (the Disneyland kind—not the real ones), or if you're simply looking for a genuinely beautiful, well-optimized game filled with humor, epic moments, and a palpable passion from its developers, then **Corsair Cove is absolutely worth your time.**
Ein absolut wunderschönes Spiel mit Suchtfaktor. Auf jedenfall eine Empfehlung.
nice
This game is so much fun. Has a moderate learning curve and takes about 5hrs to get the hang of it. It does make me want more from the game but what it has so far was well accomplished and challenging. Difficulty does ramp up after level 3 ships and restriction of resources does make a bit frustrating to manage as it needs more planning. Game is a bit unbalanced early game as one path in the compass feels more easier while other paths feels underperforming. I really do feel the amount of work put into this game as its well performing and has a lot of variety with compass/different deeds. The gameplay with card based combat does feel a bit repetitive after a while but thats a very minor issue in overall scheme of things. Its a breadth of fresh air compared to other strategy/city builder games. Will continue to play atleast for the next month. Would give an overall 8/10.
Love me some pirates!
This is an incredible game with such great depth and immersion. I'm genuinely enjoying myself and feel it was well, well worth the price.
