Commander 85 is meant to be a C64 computer. Our kid protagonist gets it for his birthday then we have the opportunity to use it at home. We participate in a birthday party at first then there is an intro showing us heading home on a bike. The music already takes us back to the '80s. And if it wasn't enough you'd be surprised what else the kid has in his room! Posters of movies from the '80s, familiar books such as the Shining by Stephen King and a radio with several station to tune in to. Home Alone was actually released in 1990 but if we look at the years of making it that poster should also be fine. The game is played from the first person but movement is restricted. We spend the majority of our time bound to our desk. If you look around in our room and interact with the bed the kid automatically goes there and picks up the remote while lying in a comfortable position. Otherwise we can interact with a lot of objects (floppy disks!!!) and can use a lot of commands while using Commander. As soon as we establish internet connection we can start hacking our school database to ensure our attendance is 100%. Then, suddenly, we get a virus and we find ourselves in a situation where our world is threatened by nuclear destruction. You can see the creators took inspiration from the Matthew Broderick movie titled WarGames. I think the game here has its limitations (hence the title Prologue) as I couldn't really figure out what to do and just decided to go to sleep to see what would happen. Your mom occasionally appears asking you to stop playing on the computer - she has her special meter filling up in the upper-left corner but I never saw any consequences to not obeying her. Commander '85 Prologue is a trip down memory lane with its many references to the '80s and that the gameplay revolves around us typing in commands (the Commander keeps talking to us which is pure fun). I'm a millennial but the '80s remains my favourite era. As a free game this prologue is fun to play - I need to check the negative reviews for the full game, though, as there are way too many of them. I wonder what went bad with it. Till then you can have fun with this short, free version.

First of all, it is a very good game graphically, Secondly the story is a bit or even quite fitting, Thirdly if you like hacker type games (or if you like computer related games you can give it a chance) Finally, it is a bit confusing game, but I think it is playable, there is already a 1 hour game time. Thank you for reading my review, if you like it, you may like it.

A wierd game. It's like the movie "Wargames" with M. Broderick from the 80s. I didn't find out what to do. You can enter commands in a old fashioned C64-like computer. You are a high school student hacker and change your grades, but then a virus infects your system. Then you have to type something... but what? You have a very long computer manual containing commands, encryption methods and binary operators. I guess this is a game designed for mid 40 wannabe hackers. Nothing for me.
Judging from the prologue / demo, this looks quite promising. It leans heavily on nostalgia, which is the game's strong selling point: There are lots of references to the 80s and 90s (books, board games, a Sony Walkman, VHS tapes, Kodak cameras, Nintendo's Game & Watch "Parachute" game - which was actually my very first G&W game!), etc.

Then, of course, there's the home-micro itself, clearly drawing inspiration (visually) from the Amiga 600, while its name is an obvious reference to the Commodore 64. The main scenario takes a cue from War Games, and aside from the pseudo-hacking stuff, you can even run some programs & play games on it (also harking back to classics like Breakout, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Capcom's 1942, etc.). Including an operating manual is a really nice touch - especially for people like me who love games that feature stuff like that (TIS-100, SHENZEN I/O, etc.).

This is all fine & good; However, the developer's previous game (Bohemian Killing), although featuring some interesting narrative mechanics, had apparently some prevalent woke overtones (regarding a gyρsy & "racism"), which gives me pause about purchasing the full Commander '85 game. I'll definitely keep an eye on it though, and wait to see some detailed reviews; If the main story doesn't include any idiotic woke "surprises" or far-left propaganda "plot twists" (for example: "The Patriarchy", or "White Men", or "Capitalism" being demonized as "responsible for World War III" - or something along these lines), then I'll probably purchase it some time in the future.

Yeah, I know it's sad that people have to pay attention to details like these from now on, but there's just too many games nowadays that sneakily attempt to push a far-left narrative while capitalizing on other themes (in this case: good ol' 80s / 90s nostalgia).

So, for now, and as far as this prologue demo goes, things look positive. We'll just have to wait and see how it evolves from here.
Recomendo jogarem
I've only played the prologue so far, but I think the full release of this game is getting some harsh reviews from people that have played for less than a couple of hours. The game is hard, and doesn't have a lot of hand holding in it, I personally found that really enjoyable, it's a nice contrast to a majority of modern games where the game basically plays itself and you're left thinking 'so what do I do?'. Nice graphics, interesting environment to explore, and I enjoyed puzzling this out for myself whilst (re)learning a bit about programming. I'd recommend to anyone who likes a challenge and has the patience for it.
