It starts off as a pretty interesting Sorta roman war game, but quickly begins to remind me of Beowulf sans Beowulfs coolness..
This game has a very "orginal" culture which seems to be a collision of several. For me it was very difficult to "get into", as I had trouble being jarred constantly by the culture I did not understand. Its easy to get into something if you have a frame to fit it into, but that was very hard for this story. The names of all the characters can be unusual, at least for an English speaker and I quickly lost track of names and did not find myself attaching any real importance to characters. I didnt find my choices seemed to effect things very directly at all and struggled to play the game for too long. Very pleased by other "Choice of" games, but this one was not for me.
Choice of Games usually have good games, but Choice of the Petal Throne is a poor representation of what CoG can offers. Games like this tend to connect the readers with the characters. Unfortunately, Choice of the Petal Throne has unremarkable characters. The reader will play the game and will be unable to remember who is who. Add in the setting where the majority of readers are unfamiliar with, and it is a disaster in the makings. However, to give credit to the developers, information about the world that this game is based is available by just searching it online through a search engine. In the end, Choice of the Petal Throne felt more like an advertisement for the universe of Tekumel rather than a CoG game.
Like everone says its to short the monent i it got gowing it was over
One of the better products under the Choice of Games brand, but a bit too short. I would have appreciated more chances to use my stats and more situations to use them in. I enjoyed the exotic setting, My favorite character was only present for one scene. "Every time you ----- come down here, you get stranger and dumber!"
At first, I was turned off by this game. I got it due to the topic. I LOVE the world of EPT. Playing a word based game was a suprise to me (although, I did do ZORK et al as a kid... yeah, I am older). I am very impressed with the amount of love put into this game and the interpretation of MAR Barker's world. This game is probably not as well recomended for non-EPT fans. However, for those of us who grew up with the RPG of the Petal Throne, this is golden entertainment. Kudos.
A relatively cheap and easy way to get introduced to the legendary world of Tekumul, one of the first RPG worlds designed before TSR DnD got really big. The story is quite short and the jargon can be quite jarring and hard to understand but overall, a decent adventure.
A good game. Not very long, but it presents the world of Tekumel pretty good and glossary is useful. If you want to learn about this awesome world - this is a great way.
This story was awesome! The only issue I had was that before I knew it, the story was over. It was definitely shorter than I would have preferred. From everything from the in-depth descriptions to how well the story flowed with all the characters, it was just a great experience from beginning to end. I would give this a solid 9/10.
Really good and interesting story.
