Cerberus: Orbital watch

"Cerberus: Orbital watch" may look like a simple SpaceWar! (1962) ripoff, but it's worse. The control handling isn't like Asteroids/SpaceWar!/Star Control, instead it's more like a 2D top down twin stick shooter. You control a little spaceship thing and you have to blast aliens etc... ho hum. There's an upgrade scheme where you can buy and upgrade ships but this isn't a particularly fun thing to do when the core game itself is so bad. The UI is really amateurish, too. You can customise controls and resolution, but there's not really much to be gained from doing that given how poor the general game is in terms of quality. However I don't think this is an asset flip or anything, this does seem like a sincerely, if badly made game. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this game was never accepted on the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Cerberus: Orbital watch is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.

Some nice ideas and features, but just completely unfinished and unpolished.
