Started off loving this game when it was first around. It was fun, and a really fun world where there was such a good amount of potential for what there was. More updates came, more fun was had. Both me and my fiancé LOVED playing it, and we were always keeping our fingers crossed for more great content, such as deeper customisation, making our own characters, dragons, etc. Everything that could of made this game great was there, but unfortunately, it's pretty much gone up in smoke. The first issue was the games store, it was really weird to see things rotate, but never really in a good pattern. Sometimes you'd see an item you want, but then it would disappear to never be seen again, which is a bizarre way of handling it considering that the game's sole source of income was the selling of items. At the time this was the way it worked, and I don't know if it's been remedied since, and if it has, fantastic, but this was my experience for the time I'm talking about in this review. Me and my girl even bought a few things to enjoy our sessions more! We had fun making our riders and dragons look cool and epic. Then the next problem came, which was packs started being released at crazy prices, which yes, in some way, you could justify it by explaining that it's a FTP game and they have to make some money some way. I agree, they absolutely do. But my advice would be to look to other games that have the FTP format, and they sell individual items, weapons, customisation options, outfits, skins, colour palettes, etc, whatever you will, all individually for the most part for reasonable prices. To push entire packs out at high prices where you'd maybe only want one or two of the items from it was a bit of an oddball move to us. Then things started getting worse in the games itself. Now, I'm not sure if it was a case of hackers, code injectors, cheaters of other methods, or if the games matchmaking was just going down the drain, but again, at the time of when this was last played by me and my girl, we were constantly being matched against players who were somehow slaughtering everyone on in the map. Only very occasionally we'd have a win, and we noticed some strange things happening, such as attacks landing through walls, from across the entire arena, from locations where it would of been IMPOSSIBLE to get a lock on, and yet, the attacks would land, and even be one hit kills when we were at full health. Again, I don't know if this was an issue with hacking, cheating, etc, but at the time, it killed the fun, and if this HAS been resolved since, fantastic, but what me and my fiancé remember the most was we looked online, and a LOT of people were complaining at the time about games like this happening. They sadly, seemed to be falling on deaf ears where the developers weren't responding, and seemingly not fixing anything. Maybe we'll come back to it to try it again sometime in the future, but the fun was sadly sapped out of the experience in this game with how the monetisation was handled and the matches were going. Yes, skill issues can certainly be attributed to some of our losses. We weren't expert players by any means, and we still had fun, but as I said, getting taken down from across the map, from behind cover, through walls. Whatever was happening, I hope it is fixed. But my advice for this game is that while the review is stated as not recommended, at least give it a try just once or twice to see if you like it. Make that decision yourself. My point of view is that I can't recommend this game for people who are looking for a fair and fun FTP game about dragons. The foundation of it is here, but it just wasn't built upon well. However, if you do like it, fantastic, and I hope you have a far better time with it than we did. Hope this review is helpful to some. Happy gaming all!

The matchmaking is so bad its not worth even starting the game if you havent played the game since it started. Everything cool is behind a paywall. The creators really dont care about their game. Yeh. Not worth getting.
TLDR; the game is gorgeous, pretty f2p friendly (in terms of gameplay), and cosmetics are super cool, but matchmaking is slow and imbalanced (most active players are veterans) and no big updates in years. I first played this game a few weeks after launch, and back then, it seemed like it had a world of potential. It was the first game of this style to have caught my interest, especially with how few dragon-centric games of this genre there are. The customisation was one of the main factors that got me into this game, and I had a lot of fun playing dress-up with different dragons, armour, weapons, etc. especially since all cosmetics were just that--strictly cosmetic, and lacked any impact other than looking cool. Now, coming back to this game a few years later, I must say that I do not recommend this game to newer players. I personally find most lobbies to be filled with veterans and/or bots, the former of which makes this game extremely unfriendly to newer players, especially those who are unable to get over the steep learning curve. I recall there being rumours of skill-based matchmaking which, in my opinion, would have solved this issue. Except the last substantial update was made in 2024, and any further development of the game seems to have more or less stopped (or so my brief research has told me). Cosmetic packs seem to still exist at, in my opinion, outrageous prices, despite there seeming be little to no new content introduced, even in my years-long break. Sure, there are a few new classes and skills, but aside from that, the gameplay seems to be almost the exact same as it was roughly three years ago. Pretty boring, if you're already familiar with the mechanics of the game. I won't discourage new players from checking out the game, as despite the negative review, I still have yet to find another game that has the quality of dragons/dragon-riding + customisation that this game has. I do, however, warn that many might not have a great experience with it in its current state. Not to say I wouldn't be happy if some of y'all did end up sticking around though, because the game definitely needs more active players.
PROS - Unique dragon-riding PvP gameplay. - Fast, exciting, and satisfying aerial combat. - Distinct dragon classes with different playstyles. - Great visuals and immersive sound design. - One of the most underrated multiplayer games. CONS - Small player base leads to long matchmaking times. - Can be difficult for newcomers due to the learning curve. - Limited player population affects the overall multiplayer experience. VERDICT Century: Age of Ashes genuinely surprised me. It's rare to find a multiplayer game that feels this unique, and I had a great time learning its mechanics and flying through intense dragon battles. What disappoints me the most isn't the game itself, it's the lack of players. I honestly think this game deserves a much bigger audience because the gameplay is far better than its popularity suggests. If you don't mind waiting a little longer for matches, I think it's absolutely worth trying. 4/5
Unfortunately the game's devs do not listen to the players and have not added any new substantial content in years. Customization and cool dragons are paid, theres barely anything to spend coins on, and the player count slowly keeps dropping by the day. Its unfortunate because this game is genuinely so cool, its fun and innovative, but greed has overtaken it, and has been left to die. Its still playable at this moment in time, but I fear the game will shut down sooner than it ever shouldve been.
The game is really cool, But I wouldn't recommend it. And here is why - Huge Skill gap. Unless you get lucky and get put into games with other newer players, you're gonna get rolled. And with how long the queues are probably not to many new players if there are any players at all. They haven't added anything substantial in almost three years. Season 3 has been up since July 7th 2023, I think every now and then a new dragon cosmetic is added. But with such a small player base, no real additions outside of cosmetics. I wouldn't waste my time on it.
this game is peak, if the devs added a free roam multiplayer to chill with people as dragons would make it sm better. but base game is so peak, its just dragon COD
Long matchmaking wait times due to small playerbase, unfriendly for beginners and often matches them with people who have been playing for 4+ years leading to very unfair matches, and predatory monetization.
