Cats is a deliberately uncomplicated casual game built around one of the easiest themes to understand: clicking on cats and collecting more of them. Rather than surrounding the idea with complicated systems or an elaborate story, the game embraces simplicity from the moment it begins. Developed and published by 100 Cozy Games and Cats, it is primarily designed as a relaxing novelty for players who enjoy cats, collectible images, achievement hunting, and games that require almost no learning curve. The main interaction consists of clicking cats and continuing to do so as additional feline images become available. There are no complicated movement systems, combat mechanics, puzzles, or strategic decisions to master. Everything is immediately accessible, making it possible to understand the gameplay within seconds. That accessibility works particularly well for short sessions when you want something that requires virtually no concentration. At the same time, the extremely limited mechanics mean players expecting a traditional progression-heavy clicker may discover that there is not enough complexity to sustain their interest for very long. Much of the enjoyment comes from the presentation rather than the mechanics themselves. Different cat images provide the visual rewards for continued interaction, including both monochrome and colorful artwork. The collection aspect creates a modest sense of anticipation because each new image provides something different to look at. Cat enthusiasts will naturally get considerably more enjoyment from this than players who are indifferent to the subject matter, since the entire experience is essentially built around celebrating feline imagery. The audio presentation supports the playful atmosphere with cat sounds and background music. Hearing meows while interacting with the cats adds some personality to actions that would otherwise feel extremely mechanical. Music also gives the game a more relaxed atmosphere and makes repeated clicking slightly more pleasant during longer sessions. These are small details, but they matter in a title where there are intentionally very few gameplay systems competing for attention. Achievements provide another incentive to continue playing. Players interested in filling out their Steam achievement collection can work toward milestones associated with repeated interaction. This gives the clicking mechanic a clearer purpose beyond simply viewing additional cats. Steam statistics further complement the progression-oriented side of the experience. Optional additional content, including material associated with the artwork and soundtrack, also reinforces the idea that presentation and collection are central to the game's identity. Accessibility is one of its strongest qualities. The controls are straightforward, the concept does not require extensive explanations, and the hardware requirements are modest enough that a wide variety of computers should be capable of running it. The game also offers extensive interface language support. Because there is relatively little complicated information to process, language barriers are unlikely to interfere heavily with understanding the basic experience. Steam Deck compatibility is a notable advantage. The game is officially Steam Deck Verified, with its core functionality working through the handheld's controls and its interface remaining usable on the smaller display. Controller prompts and general navigation are appropriately supported, while the game can run using settings suitable for the device. Its viewpoint and methodical pacing also translate naturally to portable play, although demanding visual settings can still make sensible performance adjustments worthwhile for players prioritizing battery life or consistent performance. The greatest limitation is longevity. Clicking cats is amusing as a casual distraction, but the fundamental interaction does not offer enough variety to satisfy anyone searching for mechanical depth. There is little reason to expect strategic experimentation, meaningful difficulty, sophisticated simulation systems, or an evolving narrative. The enjoyment instead comes from collecting, achievements, cute imagery, and the inherently amusing idea of repeatedly interacting with cats. That narrow design makes the game easy to enjoy casually but difficult to recommend as a substantial gaming experience. Taken on its own terms, Cats succeeds reasonably well. It is cheerful, accessible, visually focused, and intentionally undemanding. Being free to play also makes its limited scope easier to accept because players can discover whether the concept appeals to them without a significant commitment. It works particularly well as a small achievement-hunting diversion or something to open whenever you want a few minutes of uncomplicated entertainment. Ultimately, Cats knows exactly what kind of experience it wants to provide and does not burden its simple premise with unnecessary complexity. Its repetitive gameplay prevents it from becoming particularly memorable from a mechanical perspective, but charming cat imagery, amusing sounds, achievements, and effortless accessibility give it enough personality to work as a lightweight casual title. Players who love cats and collecting will get the most from it, while anyone searching for deeper gameplay will probably move on quickly. Rating: 7/10
I don't remember getting this game, i don't remember getting the 2 achievements this game has in 10 minutes (no dlc needed). It is free though, so just try it out.
Before I turned on this crap, I was playing The Plan. I was a fly for 15 minutes, just flying, there was absolute peace in my head. It was meditation for people who hate meditation. And then I turn on this HELL that looks cute and makes me click on cats for 5 minutes to get an achievement. It felt like someone said "Okay, now we're going to do a little test of mental endurance. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click..." I just sat there, after that zen fly nirvana, and then: CAT. CAT. CAT. CAT. CAT. CAT. The whole time my brain was saying, "Why am I doing this? What's the point? Why is it so hard? Why is it 1000? Why are these cats just watching? Why are they following me? Why am I here?" It was a completely different kind of suffering than broken AAA games. This is micro-suffering. In short, it was 3 minutes of frustration, 1 minute of resignation, and the last minute of "only 200 more clicks, fυck, come on." Absolutely no point, no context, no logic, just pure suffering. I hope they don't update to 10k clicks. MEOW
