This review probably isn't necessary, but I figure I should leave on anyway. I gave this game a shot because of my past experience with 5th Cell's game series Scribblenauts, my absolute favorite game series. I hoped 5th Cell could get some comeback with this game, but with multiple painfully laggy menus and feeling like a mobile game for PC, there seems to be a lot to be desired with this game. A mobile game should not run as crappily as this one does on PC. It should have been made for mobile devices in the first place. That seems like a very huge missed opportunity. And honestly, to me it seems like it may be a bit too early for release, even for Early Access. Judging by the Discord for this game, it's abandoned. I don't know if I really care if I'm wrong. It certainly lacks community activity. In matches, you will be fighting bots 99% of the time I'm sure. If they expected to keep a community and gain money from the game in such an unfinished state, then unfortunately I guess that's just survival of the fittest. People will not stay playing a laggy game where all they do is fight a bunch of bots.

I really enjoyed this game. It has a lot of strategy involved while also keeping a match duration short. The mechanics of different armies are balanced against one another and the intensity of each match often leaves one snatching victory right from the jaws of defeat. I was overjoyed by winning eveymatch I played in ranked until I relaised that there is no body else on earth playing this game currently, its just bots I am being matched with. Taking this game multiplayer was the right thing to do but sadly, there currently is no audience for this amazing work of art.
The Discord link is dead and so is the game; unless you want to play against bots over and over I suggest waiting until it gets actual players or skipping it all together.
Castlehold is a 19 hex-grid tactical game where you play a hand of cards. There is a cataclysmic event that caused past, present and future to merge. Humans have gained special latent powers that do not seem to show up in the Tutorial. The objective is to move a unit into the enemy Castle while ensuring they don't move into yours. Gameplay-wise, it's simplified Faeria. Each round you do the 3 following steps; Draw a card, Move your units, Deploy and End Your Turn. Deck - First thing. You build a deck of 11 units and you can only have 2 copies of unit in your deck. Your deck does not cycle during the game. So, once you're out of cards, you can only play the lowly 0-cost villager card. Races - Currently, there are only 3 races; Daimyo, Vanir and Baron. However, there are 5 heroes which means that 2 more races don't exist yet. Units - Instead of the more complex Attack/Defence stats, you just have 1 stat called Power. If your units Power is greater than the enemy units Power, you kill it with no penalty. Worldbuilding - So boring. Samurai, Knights and Norsemen. Conclusion, Castlehold is not good enough to be playable in this state. 5th Cell has a long way to go with Castlehold and its current design is limited to very simple playstyles. It can't scale well.
PROS
1. Free
CONS
1. As above, Not going to fill it up for an EA
NEUTRAL
1. Deploy to End Your Turn This is both good and bad. You cannot do a deploy-combo because you overlapped Deploy and End Turn into a single action. E.g. Baron's +1 per unit on the board. You can't deploy a unit to give it +1. You have to deploy and end your turn to get the +1.
