This is actually pretty good, and getting better... I was surprised to see that it even was VR. It has some of the classic VR anomalies like working with MFDs from too far out. But still usable when you get used to it. This IS A GOOD GAME! Albeit, I have not gotten so far in that I can comment on the AI and major battle issues. I haven't resupplied either yet.
bad vr port
This is the best VR game I have ever played in my life. There are a lot of things I wish could be added to the game but as it stands right now I love it. Usually if I am stressed at work I will play this to get some time off and I really feel like I am there. The game proves that you don't need AMAZING graphics in order to have great gameplay. Lot's of people will say it is too hard or you need a team to play but that is just because they simply don't know how to play the game. Remember that half the population has an IQ under 100, people buy lottery tickets, and Trump is seriously being considered to win the election and you can see why comments like that exist.

Buggy. Black screen issue. Can't interact after played first recorded message. Clumsy Tutorial. Ambitious but Unfinished game.
Really fun with a group, absolutely impossible singleplayer. The carrier vs carrier combat is impossible, dodging torpedoes, managing repairs, dropping countermeasures, firing SAMs, firing torpedoes, cruise missiles and the main gun, and controlling a whole air group is not possible without like 3 people. This is fine when attacking islands, but when you find the carrier, your completely screwed. So if you got a bunch of friends to play with you, this is a great game, otherwise, maybe not
All kinds of issues. Is this game running dx12? If so we need dx11 to possibly get rid of a lot of these problems (dx12 for vr = trouble). Too bad because this will be a kick ass vr game if the problems get sorted. I have a Reverb g2, 5600, and 3080 ti First off, performance is unacceptably bad for a retro polygon game. I figured motion smoothing always on could help me out, to keep the resolution decent, but it's very stuttery still, something is very wrong with the game engine. 45fps is smooth in other games, but here it'll still stutter. When innately these graphics and gamepace should lend itself a perfect candidate for motion smoothing always on. Once the campaign is started I get welcomed by pitch black screen (with certain UI elements still visible). Game just doesn't render, but tracking and everything works, I can move around, it just doesn't render any textures or objects outside of some reticle, 100% game breaking bug. Solution is to start the game over and over, 10 times or so. - No continuous snap turn option. - Smooth movement is very slow. - Teleport is jank - Snap turning with buttons instead of joystick is a genuinely stupid way of doing it. Thanks htc for making terrible control schemes an option. - Price is too high, and certainly too high at the state it's in right now - even on sale. - Impressively bad performance. - Reset view doesn't lock to horizontal plane (the carrier in this case) for some reason, I've never had a game do that before, it's just weird. - I'm thinking the best way to control this game right now would be mouse and keyboard, with the complexity and how bad the vr movement works. Lot of work to do with VR implementation. Will these problems get sorted?
TL;DR Due to the terrible VR controls if there was an option of "Maybe" I'd have selected that, as such, I'm not recommending this game so that other's might be pre-warned before buying. Longer version; The VR version of this game is actually really good but the VR version suffers from some very odd control decisions. If there was an option to remap the controls then this issue would go away but as it stands I had a very hard time un-learning some standard control patterns to get into this game. Basically I'm using the original HTC Vive wands that have the trackpad controllers. For those that don't know, these act like a laptop tracker pad when "stroked" with your thumb, but also act like a traditional gamepad D-pad with hard button presses too. This usually means you get two or more control options with your thumbs. Traditionally the "centre view" option might be the Menu Button (the button above the trackpad) and movement would be either to the trackpad touch or trackpad hard button d-pad push. But for some reason the devs mapped this to any hard button trackpad push. This meant I spent the first half an hour trying to move and instead accidentally re-centering my VR view. And for some other reason re-centering your view isn't horizon locked like a lot of other games and instead it centers on where you're looking when the re-center button was pressed. Result? You instinctively try to move (either teleport or smooth movement - doesn't matter) and end up facing the floor like Michael Jackson in Smooth Criminal because nine times out of ten you were looking down at a bridge screen when you pressed it. You then spend a few seconds trying to re-center your view which also trying to fight a bit of nausea and getting back on with the game. The "go back" option for screen selections is mapped to the grip buttons on the Vive wands. This would be great but they seem super unresponsive with multiple grip presses needed sometimes before anything happens. So without wanting to make this a complete laundry list of issues, it would be great to be able to remap the controls to make getting into the game easier and cut out the nausea it creates. Until that happens, or someone creates a mod, I think a lot of players using the old Vive Controllers would have a steeper learning curve with this game. I'm happy to change my review if there was an update to allow this to happen.
After revisiting this again in VR running on a PC linked quest 2 and a 12900k with a 4090 this game seems to be running flawlessly and the controls seem smoother and easier to navigate. This is a great VR experience right now and shouldn't be missed by anyone with a strategy itch and headset.
The enemy aircraft carrier is too aggressive, I just took down a few islands, and I just got used to how to play this game, but the enemy aircraft carrier rushed over and beat me to the ground with jets. If you like to play for ten or twenty hours And then be defeated, then congratulations, this game is perfect for you.
