"Cargo Cult: Shoot'n'Loot VR" is a pointless, short VR tech demo, an arcade rail shooter where you wave your arms around in VR to "shoot" a bunch of things so you can see some bright flashing lights and get epilepsy. There's really nothing here of any substance, it's just a tech demo. I'm wondering if this was perhaps just intentioned to be designed for VR arcade machines rather than PC... yet here we are, on PC.
Worth noting this has nothing to do with actual cargo cults, who are groups of people who believe pretending to make an airport and an airplane will make boxes of cargo appear somehow. Superstition, ain't it fun. So, cargo cult afficionados, look elsewhere.
The game is quite short, and can be run through in just 15 minutes. The lack of content here makes it hard to suggest it's worth spending the time to add to your library and download.
The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here.
It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool.
This game is fairly dated at 9 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now.
Now on to pricing and value for gamers.
There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $15 USD for this.
Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded.
Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? What's the verdict?
Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
