Call of Duty®: Black Ops

6/10 Call of Duty games are so afraid to let the player play the game. Everything is tightly scripted. In one of the [spoiler] Vietnam levels [/spoiler], you rest up in a destroyed hut. It's a few beams holding up a destroyed roof. There's an invisible wall that blocks the northern section of the hut. Despite it looking like you can continue on from that way - no, you must go through the exact same path your NPC compass-bot tells you to go. Most of your objectives are to stay by the NPC that has "Follow" in gold like a halo around their head. Call of Duty, though, is less about substance and more about spectacle - and it does a great job at that. I dunno. I realize that I'm not really the target audience for this game, but I do wish these games respected the player more. I think the only piece of "friction" that feels intentional in the game design are grenades; the player has a limited number, and the enemy grenades are a "force the player to move" mechanic. Outside of that, the game is a power fantasy, through and through. It's still a thumbs-up. The story is pretty interesting, although I think I just prefer the large-scale stories told in the Modern Warfare series over the special forces, behind-the-scenes Black Ops stories.

Good game

Great game, one of the best but it is unsafe to play and Activision will never fix it. There are vulnerabilities in this game that allow for others to not only remotely run code on your pc without you knowing, they can also take your IP address. This exists for all of the older call of duty games which is a damn shame because they are the only good ones. Also not work 40$, buy something worth your time and money.

Good single player campaign, not quite up to the level of the Modern Warfare ones, but still fun.
