Honestly an incredibly mid game, grabbed it for free and I don't regret the time I spent with it. Enjoyable enough, but definitely wait for a decent sale if you're interested.
Game is basically worse Subnautica but in space, and is a very linear experience comparatively. Grab resources, craft at a crafting bench. Explore while getting upgrades to explore faster and farther.
I would say game is split into 3 different sections. Section 1 is the most open world, just you floating in space, but with points of interest to advance the story. Eventually you can craft a base and get 2 different vehicles, but don't get too attached because you can't take any of this with you past this point of the game, and there's honestly enough in-game oxygenated crafting tables that you could theoretically skip building a base entirely.
Section 2 is similar to section 1, but you can't float in space yourself, instead being locked into a ship with guns for all the space segments. Your ship acts as a base now, with all the amenities you'd need, but could do with more built-in storage. Luckily you can still craft and place suitcases if you've found them in the previous section.
Last stretch of the game is incredibly linear, in that you no longer have a choice of which of the 6 linear bases do you want explore in which order, now it's just one location at a time, and there's more combat now, which honestly isn't very good. For the entire game, outside of some robots in the first part of the game, none of the 'enemies' move. They're all just static turrets basically.
The game doesn't take itself seriously, in the slightest. Nearly every single interaction and item that exists is a joke in some way or another. Either the description is a joke, there's a reference to something, a 4th wall break, or something else obvious, and it's largely lowbrow humor, so it definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I found most of the jokes charming or inoffensive, a few I largely liked, but none were good enough to get a chuckle out of me or anything. Your mileage may vary, and if you're someone that can't stand that kind of humor (for instance the first two booster upgrades you get are fart jokes) then I'd stay away.
Overall, I'd probably give it a 6/10. It's an okay game. Definitely not winning any awards, but something you can sink a week into playing.
