everything about this is so cute and wholesome <3
Bread Makes the Heart Aflutter is charming in every sense of the word. It is not very commonly that English Visual Novel writers give a protagonist to the player that has their own sense of charisma, even in kinetic visual novels. Generally, the trend is self-inserts or total failures, and that alone makes this stand out as Emile is both his own character and a charming character that everyone likes (and it bluntly says so, multiple times). While there are some typos and winding dialogue, most of the prose is very competent and the dialogue is cute and helps you get attached to the characters easily. I've not yet finished the story, I'm planning to do so later in the week, but I wanted to make sure that I gave my support and the big +1 to solarProtag's work. Thanks for a great experience.

This game was really really good! it was well put together and very heartfelt! i just feel i was a wee bit short and do not have the money for the dlc lol. Damon's Tears hit me hard!
This was so unbelievably cute and sweet. Playtime was around 1 hour for the three desserts. The art is charming, the music is pretty, and the dialogue is genuinely pretty funny. I loved Marjorie's antics and the comedic sound effects. If you want an easygoing, wholesome VN that makes you crave the first bite of a warm loaf of bread, definitely play!
this was so cute and it made for an absolutely cozy evening. bread certainly does make my heart aflutter. i love love love damon and emile and they have my whole heart. also, marjorie is very funny and i would die for her
Enjoyable VN with adorable art! Around 2-3 hours to get through all of the routes (and then around another hour if you get the DLC bonus story).
Гейская рапсодия.
Bread Makes the Heart Aflutter is a really cozy visual novel, and I immediately liked how much warmth the bakery setting gives the story. I play as Emile Mayer, the owner of a small bakery in the Kingdom of Selias, whose quiet life gets disrupted when the Fae Kingdom's royal procession brings an interesting newcomer into town. I enjoyed how the story builds its romance around ordinary daily life rather than relying entirely on dramatic fantasy events. The bakery itself is a big part of the charm. I get to experience the routine of running the shop while meeting customers and learning more about the people around Emile. There is something relaxing about the focus on baked goods, family and small conversations, especially when compared with the much larger fantasy world outside the bakery. The route structure is also appealing. I can begin with different introductory routes and gradually unlock a more romance focused path. I liked having that choice because it makes the story feel less linear without turning the game into an enormous branching maze. The relationships are clearly the main focus, so the different routes give me more reasons to spend time with the characters. The fantasy setting adds just enough extra flavor without taking attention away from the slice of life side. The Fae Kingdom, royal procession and bakery setting create a nice mixture of ordinary and magical elements. I also liked the colorful anime inspired artwork because it fits the warm tone of the story very naturally. My biggest issue is that the gameplay is obviously very limited if I am looking for something interactive beyond reading. This is first and foremost a visual novel, so there are no complicated mechanics or systems to keep me busy between scenes. I also think some of the worldbuilding could have been expanded because the fantasy setting feels like it has more to offer than the current story gets to explore. The romance is where the game feels strongest. I enjoyed watching Emile's quiet life gradually change as new relationships develop, and the bakery gives those interactions a comfortable backdrop. The writing also keeps the overall atmosphere light and affectionate, which makes the story easy to settle into. Overall, Bread Makes the Heart Aflutter is a sweet and relaxing fantasy visual novel that I enjoyed for its cozy bakery setting and character focused storytelling. I liked the route structure, the gentle romance and the colorful presentation. It is not aimed at players who want traditional gameplay, but as a small slice of life romance it has a lot of charm. Rating: 6.5/10
