Peak soundtrack, has multi-sweep so you won't have to play it over & over again, cute students & funny moments, and an absolutely cinematic story writing. 10/10, would brain wash myself & delete my account just so I can relive everything from zero again. Y'all would be missing out if you won't play it.

I like playing this game sometimes on and off, though lately I decided to play it again one day only for my game session to just never be able to play? Mind you last time I played this game was like last year, I never cheated or anything else of the sort so I couldn't be banned. Is it the actual servers or what? I have no issues connecting to other games servers and the like so why specifically can't I play on this game? I have no clue, the game just isn't allowing me to play the game.

I downloaded Blue Archive with the expectations that I'd play it for a few days, get stone-walled on progression unless I forked over some cash, then get bored and uninstall... y'know, it being a gacha game and all. At least, that was my experience with games like Genshin Impact and Cookie Run Kingdom. But actually, I haven't once thought about spending money on this game in my 45.3 hours thus far; the game is extremely generous in regards to giving you items, EXP, in-game currency, and tickets to unlock characters. Currently, I have over 23 million credits just from playing for fun. The only "grinding" I've ever really had to do was just to get certain upgrades, but with the Multi-Sweep feature, it takes 5 minutes rather than 5 hours... so I don't think I'd even consider it "grinding" lol. I've seen a lot of people complain that the gacha (recruitment) system is poor since you often get the same common characters repeatedly, but I feel like since you get *so many* opportunities to recruit characters compared to other games in the genre, it evens out quite nicely. I write long reviews, so I'm going to split this into sections... I'll write a TL;DR at the bottom if you just want the quick summary. - - - - - - - VISUAL NOVEL / STORY / FAN-SERVICE REVIEW: I'm a girl, so the fact that 95% of Visual-Novel stories tend to just be goon-slop fanservice with a complete disconnect from reality has always gotten on my nerves... it's not that I'm against anime sexualization (quite the opposite 💢), it's just difficult to develop any real investment in a character if the only purpose they serve in life is something to wank to; even if they have a well thought out design or an interesting backstory... there's still very little substance there. If you're a big fan of VNs though, then you probably don't mind stuff like this, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. With that out of the way, I went into this game assuming its VN sections would be the exact same, so I had a bitter taste in my mouth right off the bat. Despite that though, I've actually grown very fond of the game's story... the characters are genuinely enjoyable to read about, and it's really fun to see them all interact with one another. I wouldn't say it's peak literature of course, but I have a genuinely good time reading through all of the parts, and I look forward to what characters each part will focus on next. It definitely has its fair share of risqué content, if not obvious by the age rating, but it's executed really well; the way you interact with the girls feels plausible and grounded. There are obviously some moments where you may cringe, in my case I don't like when you're not given the option whether to flirt with one of the characters or not (feels immersion-breaking; I'd never be disloyal to Hina!), but those moments are few and far between. If you don't like the fan-service at all, or you just don't like certain segments, all of the stories are completely skippable with no in-game consequences. You just have to click the (☰) menu option at the top-right side of the screen to find the (>>) skip button. Bonus: you get 40 Pyroxenes (the main in-game currency) for every chapter you read, which for me only takes about 1–3 minutes. Most of the stories have about 20 chapters in them, so on-average you'll get about 800 per story completed! - - - - - - - GAME-PLAY REVIEW: The game-play is surprisingly addictive. It starts out pretty boring since you're given fairly OP characters in comparison to the enemies, but I'm fairly certain that's intentional so you can spend more time figuring out the mechanics and combos rather than immediately diving into difficult stuff. The character stats aren't the most complicated thing I've seen in a game, but they're really engaging and fun to work with. One of the things keeping me so hooked on this game is trying to find out the limits I can push my units before needing to upgrade them. If you take the time to read each combat's landscape (Urban/Field/Indoors) and the enemy armor types (Normal/Light/Heavy/Composite/Special/Elastic), you can beat maps far above your actual level. Currently most of the missions I play are intended for account levels 70–80 whilst I'm only at 45. I'm not going to break down every game-mode since you can easily find that through guides, but I really appreciate how much variety there is in all of the combat modes. Mostly I want to talk about the Cafe section though, which is honestly my favorite part (yes I know a girl liking the decoration mini-game the best is stereotypical... not my fault it's so fun). As you progress, you unlock Keystones, which let you craft items; in that, you have the option to craft Cafe Furniture, which you can then use to decorate a room that students visit every day. This gives you a "Comfort Level", which increases how much revenue the Cafe generates (you gain AP and Credits hourly through it). When *recruited* students visit, you can use it as an opportunity to raise your Relationship Level with them either by simply clicking or giving them a gift (which you can also craft), both upgrading their stats and unlocking exclusive Visual-Novel segments. - - - - - - - ARTWORK / 3D MODELING / VISUAL STYLE REVIEW: Given that the artwork and character-design were why I downloaded Blue Archive in the first place, I'm sure you can guess that this section will be positive, too... as an artist myself though, it's hard not to nitpick it a bit. For the most part, I absolutely adore the visuals in this game, but there are a few parts where it's clunky, especially with the low-value starter characters. For example, almost everyone in the Engineering Department has a jarringly conflicting style compared to the rest of the cast. • Utaha has really strange facial proportions, and I don't think it's a deliberate design choice since it doesn't reflect in her 3D model • The side of Kotori's face looks really warped, like she got stung by a bee • Kotama looks less like a drawing and more like an awkward 3D VTuber model • Hibiki and Saya's art are fine by themselves, but the styles are drawn in a completely separate way than everyone else's Aside from these complaints, I really have nothing else negative to say. I've even begun using one of the snowy forest landscape images as the background on my laptop... the artists behind this series are seriously talented! One thing I want to point out is how cute the 3D chibi models that appear in the combat sections are, I especially love their little introduction(?) cut-scenes when you use their ability for the first time that day. - - - - - - - TL;DR - I would definitely recommend! Blue Archive has great variety in its game-play, generous progression, wonderful artwork, adorable character-design, and a great story-line! If you want a semi-passive RPG and cute girls, then this is for you! Sorry for the text-wall... I don't write reviews often, but when I do, it's because I've become very passionate about something lol.
