It’s a really good and challenging game, but I wish it had a variety of weapons and more levels.

Bloody Walls, developed and published by L. Stotch, is a stripped-down 2D action shooter that leans heavily on tension, timing, and repetition rather than narrative depth or expansive systems. It presents itself as a compact, almost arcade-like experience where survival is the only real objective, and everything else—from story to progression—exists purely to support that central loop. What it lacks in scale, it tries to make up for with intensity and precision. The premise is minimal but functional. Set in a bleak, infected world, the player enters a building in search of a temporary antidote that keeps a deadly condition at bay. The story is barely foregrounded, surfacing only in fragments and context rather than through active storytelling. This lack of narrative focus feels intentional, as the game quickly pushes players into its core rhythm of movement, combat, and survival without much explanation. It’s less about why you’re there and more about how long you can last. Gameplay is where Bloody Walls reveals its strengths. It operates as a side-scrolling shooter, but instead of encouraging reckless action, it demands control and awareness. Weapons behave in ways that force players to think about distance, timing, and risk. A shotgun, for instance, is devastating at close range but requires you to put yourself in danger to use it effectively, while other weapons offer safer but less impactful options. This constant balancing of risk and reward creates a subtle layer of strategy beneath the otherwise simple mechanics. One of the more interesting aspects of the design is how it discourages careless play. Reloading is not just a passive action—it’s influenced by how you fire your weapon, which means spamming shots can leave you vulnerable at the worst possible moment. Combined with enemies that can quickly overwhelm you, this system pushes players to adopt a more measured approach. Every encounter becomes a small test of discipline, where success depends on maintaining control rather than reacting impulsively. The difficulty reinforces this design philosophy. The game is unforgiving, often punishing mistakes immediately and forcing players to learn through repetition. There is little in the way of guidance or safety nets, and progress often comes from memorizing patterns and refining execution over multiple attempts. This can be satisfying for players who enjoy challenge-driven gameplay, but it may feel harsh or limiting for those looking for a more forgiving experience. Despite these strengths, the game’s scope is undeniably limited. A full run can be completed in a short amount of time, and while the challenge encourages replayability, the lack of evolving mechanics means that the experience doesn’t change significantly between attempts. Once players become familiar with enemy behavior and level structure, much of the initial tension is replaced by routine. The game remains engaging in short bursts, but it struggles to sustain long-term interest. There is a small layer of progression tied to exploration and item collection. Players can find objects scattered throughout the environment and exchange them for minor upgrades or additional tools. While this adds a bit of incentive to explore and experiment, it doesn’t dramatically alter the overall gameplay loop. The focus remains firmly on survival and execution rather than character growth or strategic development. Visually, Bloody Walls embraces a retro-inspired aesthetic that echoes early handheld-era design. Its limited color palette and simple pixel art give it a distinct, almost nostalgic identity. This minimalist approach works well for readability, ensuring that players can clearly track enemies and actions even during chaotic moments. At the same time, the simplicity of the visuals reinforces the game’s overall sense of restraint—it’s effective, but not particularly varied or expressive. The audio design complements this approach with functional, understated sound work. Weapon effects provide clear feedback, and the soundtrack shifts appropriately between quieter exploration and more intense combat sequences. While it doesn’t stand out as a defining feature, it supports the gameplay without distraction, maintaining the game’s focus on tension and timing. In the end, Bloody Walls is a tightly focused experience that delivers exactly what it sets out to do: a challenging, repeatable action loop built on precision and control. It doesn’t offer much in the way of expansion or long-term depth, but within its limited scope, it manages to create moments of genuine tension and satisfaction. It’s best approached as a short, intense arcade-style experience rather than a fully developed, content-rich game. Rating: 7/10

Pretty interesting concept for a free 30-minute throwaway game — definitely respect that. Recommend giving it a try
Прикольная игра, которая быстро проходится
