Really interesting visual novel, I like the art style too!
This game is a short visual novel game about a guy in the future who starts having strange dreams and odd things happening to him, seemingly related to a streaming serial killer's antics. The story is well told in its 2 hour entirety, and it leaves room for more. Hopefully we see this universe expand with a continuation and/or spin offs from the quirky characters. I could make comparisons to a couple of novels I enjoyed, but that would give things away ! There are points in the story that give you a choice in the narrative. Sometimes it's to engage/skip a certain scene with a character, and sometimes it has a slightly longer lasting effect that changes an event later on. At first, I thought the choices were superfluous, but when I went back through to re-attempt the "Win the guessing game to pet the dog' mini game, I noticed things were changing slightly. Well played, Ori!
I'm not much of a Visual Novel-person but Blake was recommended to me and I'm happy to report I didn't regret it! Besides from the pacing being a little off towards the end, Blake presents an interesting world and story with quirky characters and some outstanding dialogues and prose. The story keeps you slightly unbalanced, but as the game progresses this becomes more of a feature and less of a bug. The soundtrack is pleasant when it needs to be and frantic when not. The gameplay is light but steps up the pace when required. If there's anything to seriously critize, it's that you have to make some decisions that appear important but seem (at least in my playthrough) to have no pay-off. Considering how much things speed up towards the end, this time could have been used better elsewhere. Still, Blake is a decent choice for a pleasant afternoon or evening and probably even justifies a replay. In my first run I didn't get to the cocktail minigame and I REALLY want to see that, so...
I loved the atmosphere in Blake: The Visual Novel. Story hooked straight from the beginning and I guess that I need to play this game later again because I missed so many achievements. Music was also great, you should consider releasing a soundtrack.
Wonderful writing, great characters, and a compelling story, all backed up by some lovely art and absolutely fantastic music. Despite the game's short run time, all of its characters felt fleshed out and oozed personality, thanks to the excellent dialogue. The central "mystery" (I won't say anymore for fear of spoiling anything) is interesting enough to keep you pushing forward, but it's the game's cast is definitely the star of the show, and I just wish I could have spent more time with them. I'd love to see some of them return in a sequel someday. An easy recommend from me - it's a well-written, unique, and highly polished visual novel that's the ideal length to play over the course of an evening.
