Black Lilies - Eternal Summer is a visual novel about a group of friends who are trapped in a time loop of their summer vacation. I was interested in it because it takes place more than a decade after the loops began, which is different from a lot of time loop stories. Because the game was made almost entirely by one person, the presentation is pretty basic - each character sprite has a few poses but only one outfit, and there are very few CGs. The music is fine but nothing special. I did like the map where you could choose what you did each day, but I'm pretty sure that until the third section you actually have to do all of the things anyway so it creates a sort of illusion of choice. I noticed quite a few typos in the text, but no real bugs or glitches. The story was fine - I actually really liked the second chapter - but it drags on way too long with the main character doing variations on the same thing over and over. I liked the main character Alice a lot. That sort of brave, determined heroine is one of my favourite types of main character in a VN. That being said, most of the other characters are extremely tropey and change personalities quickly for the sake of the plot. All of the romances felt tacked-on and weird, especially after the way the characters had acted in the first chapter. (For example there is one character who grew extremely abusive during the loops and once she's changed her mind it's all kind of swept under the rug, and the 'villain' character does a complete 180 near the end). This game does have some cool original ideas and a great main character, but it definitely needed some paring down and it can be annoying how much it gets so caught up in boring anime tropes. I could only recommend it if you really really like time loop stories.
cute visual novel about a time loop mystery and cute girls~! uwu because visual novels are very story-oriented, there's not much i can say without spoiling it, but i'll do my best to keep spoilers as light as possible (extra important for a mystery vn too). there's also a lot of subjectivity and personal preference involved as to whether or not you may enjoy this, so i'll write about my experiences and allow you to decide if it sounds appealing to you uwu the story is definitely dark, but i wouldn't call it horror (at least not the jumpscare kind). the mature content description by the developer lists potential triggers pretty thoroughly. it's not a super dark story, so it's great for if you want a story that's not too extreme. personally, i think the highlight of the story is the mystery. i ended up buying the game 'cause my sister saw me looking at it, and she's a big mystery fan, so she asked me to read it with her. we had a fun time taking it slow as we tried to deduce the mystery together. it's not an overly-complicated one, and it's very realistic for the reader to figure it out. plus, the developer really went out of their way to cover all the different questions the reader might have! whenever we had a question of "why don't the characters do this" or "what about this possibility", it'd eventually get addressed. it's a really solid mystery and one where you can feel like you can make a real effort in solving it, unlike some other types of mysteries that are not meant to be solved by the reader (only revealed in the plot later) either due to an impossible difficulty or being too open to know exactly which one of many choices it could've been. the characters are also good, though it's not the longest story, so some changes do happen a bit quick. the main character is amazing (though maybe i'm biased 'cause she's actually eeriely similar to my sister owo) and the others have decent depth to them. it might not be obvious at first, but that's how it is with people in general. when you take a closer look and think more about the characters, their motives, etc., i think they're pretty well-written. maybe if the story was longer they could've been fleshed out more, but i would say they are still enjoyable uwu the art is made by the developer who had no prior drawing experience. coincidentally, my sister is a writer who just got into drawing a few months ago (as of the time of writing this review of course). seeing how hard it is, i have huge respects to the dev for undergoing not just the difficult task of getting into art, but also making some honestly amazing quality art for a beginner. i think it's actually really cute in general too, and although there isn't much cg, the ones there are really add to the atmosphere and are especially well-drawn. drawing is seriously hard, and i can't praise the developer enough for this >w< the music is made by the developer too, and while there aren't many tracks, they're very fitting for the atmosphere and quite pleasant. other than that i don't have much else to say about it; i'm not a musician cx the writing is really good overall (especially the mystery as mentioned earlier), and there's a surprisingly low amount of typos for a vn where the only proofreader seems to be the dev. most of the typos are near the end, so i figure that's when the exhausation from re-reading everything so much must've started to hit. xwx my biggest issue would probably be the romance. while it's believable for some characters, there were a few that felt a bit unrealistic to me. i wouldn't call romance to be a strong point or even much of a focus at all of the story, but i did still enjoy the character interactions (platonically at least uwu). there was also one section of the story i felt was kinda slow and dragging on a bit, but it wasn't too bad, and it might've just kinda been hard to avoid with the plot without just making it seemed rushed instead ;w; all in all, i really enjoyed this vn, and if you like mystery, i would highly recommend it. it's a solid mystery and solid game overall. i look forward to seeing more from this developer! >w<
Not quite finished yet, but it's honestly better than expected. The writing is pretty good, the girls are mostly memorable and the art sorta grows on you after a while
This is 쓰레기
if you are thinking of playing this, go for it. its a lovely game and i am honestly sad at how little attention it has had so far. absolutley loved playing it.
