Definitely a dated game, but one I really enjoyed, and an important piece of history I would recommend to many. Rapture is a delight to get lost in, even with the games clunky gameplay and often stiff voice acting.
Шикарная игра, рекомендую однозначно
nice ending i like saving the sisters
so flipping good oh my god
Few video games have blurred the line between interactive entertainment and genuine storytelling as effectively as BioShock. Released in 2007, Ken Levine and Irrational Games created something that feels less like a traditional first-person shooter and more like a playable science-fiction horror film. The game begins with a plane crash in the middle of the Atlantic. The player controls Jack, who discovers a mysterious lighthouse that leads to the underwater city of Rapture. What initially appears to be a technological utopia soon reveals itself as a nightmare—a decaying city filled with political conflict, genetic experimentation, and people driven to madness. Rapture is the game's real star. Its Art Deco architecture, dark corridors, leaking pipes, propaganda posters, and haunting underwater atmosphere make every corner feel like part of a lost civilization. The environmental storytelling is exceptional. Audio diaries, abandoned apartments, laboratories, and advertisements gradually reveal what happened to the city without constantly forcing exposition onto the player. The game's biggest achievement, however, is its examination of free will, individualism, capitalism, scientific ambition, and political ideology. Andrew Ryan isn't simply presented as a conventional villain. His philosophy shaped every aspect of Rapture, and the consequences of that philosophy are revealed in the ruined city around you. Then comes the famous twist. The phrase “Would you kindly?” transforms the player's understanding of everything that came before it. It isn't merely a plot twist; it is a commentary on the relationship between the player and the protagonist. The game asks whether the choices we make are actually ours when someone else is pulling the strings. Visually, BioShock has also aged remarkably well. Its 1940s-inspired Art Deco aesthetic gives Rapture an identity that very few fictional settings possess. The sound design and score complement the atmosphere perfectly, while the period music makes the city feel strangely beautiful despite its horrifying circumstances. The combat isn't always as memorable as the story, and some gameplay systems can feel repetitive. But those flaws are relatively minor compared with what the game accomplishes as a complete experience. BioShock is ultimately a story about the illusion of choice—and one of the rare games that understands that the person holding the controller is part of the story. A masterpiece of video-game storytelling and a defining work of 2000s science fiction.
Who doesn’t love a critique of Capitalism, Science, Ayn Rand, and Humanity? Now this is how you make a game. Rapture is the perfect eerie setting and listening to the rambling of the splicers throughout the game provokes some of the most horrific moments throughout the game. Of course, you have the Big Daddy’s, Little Sisters, and Andrew Ryan - those are staples of this game, but the true beauty of this game comes in its atmosphere, story, and philosophic themes. While the gameplay is fun, it’s definitely not Bioshock’s selling point. Buy this masterpiece whenever you get the chance, though. “Would you kindly?” 8/10
