В детстве она казалась куда сложнее. Не думаю что с ней можно заскучать. Прикольная игрушка, рада что есть в стиме :)

Big Fish Legend is a 2D retro platformer where you control a small cat and jump around collecting gems and so on. The game has the unusual feature that you can run up and down walls, which is needed to collect some of the gems and pass some of the levels, but that's all there is to differentiate this from the thousands of other platformers on Steam. On the upside the artwork looks okay, it's not retro pixel "art" garbage, so that's a big plus. It goes to show once more that 2D retro pixel "art" is just a weak cop-out from amateur game developers who can't do better. Thumbs up for having real art in a 2D indie game, it's a nice change. Unfortunately, resolution and controls are locked and can't be changed, so there's no way to improve the game experience, and with locked controls this can make the game inaccessible to some, so it's unclear why that decision was made. Gameplay itself is also lacklustre as the animations don't neatly match the movement. Controls are floaty and imprecise, and unfortunately precise controls and a good game feel and handling are an absolute must for any platformer. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises.

Big Fish Legend, developed and published by Igry.ru, is a straightforward side-scrolling platformer that leans into simplicity, charm, and accessibility rather than complexity or innovation. It presents itself as a light adventure centered on a small, determined kitten chasing a mythical goal, using a familiar structure of progressing through themed worlds filled with obstacles, enemies, and collectibles. From the beginning, it is clear that the game is designed to be approachable, offering a relaxed experience that prioritizes ease of play over challenge or depth. The gameplay follows classic platforming conventions, with players jumping across gaps, climbing surfaces, avoiding traps, and confronting enemies along the way. The controls are intuitive and responsive enough to support the core mechanics, making it easy for players to pick up and start progressing without much adjustment. Levels are designed to be completed in short bursts, each presenting a sequence of hazards and simple challenges that gradually increase in complexity. While the structure is familiar, it remains functional, providing a steady rhythm that keeps the game moving at a consistent pace. Across its many stages, the game introduces a variety of environments, each with its own visual theme and minor gameplay variations. These worlds help break up the experience, offering changes in scenery that prevent the journey from feeling entirely uniform. Some levels incorporate additional mechanics, such as climbing or limited aerial movement, which add small moments of variety to the otherwise consistent gameplay loop. However, these features are not deeply developed, and they tend to appear as occasional additions rather than elements that significantly alter how the game is played. The progression system is tied to collecting items and completing levels, giving players a clear sense of direction as they move from one area to the next. This structure is simple but effective, providing just enough motivation to continue without introducing unnecessary complexity. Boss encounters appear periodically, offering slightly more demanding challenges that require basic pattern recognition and timing. While these moments add a bit of excitement, they remain relatively straightforward and do not push the player’s skills to a significant degree. Visually, Big Fish Legend adopts a colorful and cartoon-like aesthetic that complements its lighthearted tone. The environments are bright and easy to read, ensuring that players can quickly identify hazards and navigate each level without confusion. While the art style is pleasant, it is also fairly basic, lacking the detail or distinctiveness that might make it stand out among other platformers. The presentation serves its purpose, but it does not elevate the experience beyond its functional role. The overall difficulty remains on the easier side, making the game accessible to a wide range of players, including those who may be less experienced with platformers. This relaxed approach allows for a more casual experience, where progression feels steady rather than demanding. However, this also means that the game offers limited challenge for players seeking a more skill-intensive experience. The mechanics rarely evolve in a way that requires mastery, and much of the gameplay can be completed without significant difficulty. One of the more noticeable limitations is the game’s reliance on repetition. While there is a reasonable amount of content, the core mechanics remain largely unchanged throughout, and level design does not introduce enough variation to keep the experience feeling fresh over time. As players progress, the sense of discovery diminishes, replaced by a familiar pattern of obstacles and solutions. This can make longer play sessions feel somewhat monotonous, particularly for those looking for more dynamic or evolving gameplay. Replayability is also limited, as the game does not offer branching paths, alternate outcomes, or deeper progression systems that encourage multiple playthroughs. Once the main journey is complete, there is little incentive to return beyond personal completion goals. This reinforces the idea that the game is intended as a single, self-contained experience rather than an ongoing one. Despite these shortcomings, Big Fish Legend succeeds in delivering a simple and enjoyable platforming experience that is easy to engage with and suitable for short, relaxed sessions. Its charm lies in its straightforward design and its willingness to keep things uncomplicated, offering a pleasant journey that does not demand too much from the player. While it may not leave a strong or lasting impression, it provides a functional and accessible take on the genre. In the end, Big Fish Legend is a modest indie platformer that accomplishes its goals without attempting to go beyond them. It offers a gentle, easygoing adventure that can be enjoyed without frustration, though its lack of depth and variety prevents it from standing out in a crowded genre. For players seeking a simple and low-pressure platforming experience, it delivers a solid, if unremarkable, option. Rating: 7/10

fun!
