I spent the first 50 days (~10 irl hrs) working at a grocery store. No apartment, just sleeping in the breakroom chairs to avoid rent costs. Made a crisp $181 after food casts per day. Enough for a business education and some savings for an apartment! But that was mind-numbing, so decided to work smarter-not-harder. Tried my hand at food and package deliveries (this allows you to set your own hours, and sleep in the delivery vans or park benches if you have to). But thanks to the Better Fines and Better Pedestrian mods, I actually lost money my first night... Apparently NYC is not a fan of running red lights and running into smartphone-addicted pedestrians. Gradually learned to drive carefully and dug my way out of debt. At last, after day 60 (~18 IRL hours) I earned enough to start my own florist shop next to my cheap apartment. I have to mop my floors, run my register, and supply my own shelves. And I earn less than my daily wage as a grocery store clerk. But feel so much pride in my own business. I have $5,000 in my account; much less than I would have earned as a grocery clerk or taking loans. But this money is MINE. And soon I will own the city! Only a billion or so dollars left to go. 10/10 this is the best single-player economy sim I've tried and I'm not even past the initial honeymoon phase. I often worry about lasting appeal (games like this tend to get too easy, too quickly). But the modding support is crazy good, so I know I can enhance the difficulty whenever I need. Might even vibe-code my own improvements to the game, although this will probably be unnecessary due to the presence of an already-fantastic modding community. As one example, the Google Maps ("Voogle Routes") mod was so impressive I felt compelled to donate a few bucks to the author, something I've never done. I don't know many people IRL who are into this kind of game. So I hope the internet listens to me -- buy this game! But perhaps only if you're into a little massochism. EDITS 18 hours: My employees man the shop Mon thru Fri. So what the hell do I do during the week? wow, it's such a strange feeling being boss. Neat!

Interesting idea but gameplay is fundamentally flawed. The idea of building up a financial empire from humble beginnings is nothing new, and this game brings some interesting management options together along with just enough customization to make you feel like you are accomplishing something. The trouble begins in the mid game and gets worse as you progress from there. Once you unlock managers and set up a few people to automate deliveries and shipments, you as a character have little to do. The world itself is not fun to explore, it serves as a backdrop for places to own and use for buisness purposes. So very quickly you come to a point where the process of setting up a new shop involves sitting in your house alone on the computer hitting the waste 4 hours button while you wait for recruiters to find people, trainers to train them, and delivery drivers to bring them stuff to sell. It all grows in a satisfying way, but the periods of sitting alone in your house waiting for time to pass continue to grow and grow until eventually all you do is make phone calls from your house and then wait for people to be hired and trained so you can assign them to the schedule. There is no point to it. I guess I can buy a boat and a nicer house, but why? So I have a slightly nicer place to hit the wait 4 hours button over and over all day? All concept, absolute fail on the execution.
I thought I would like this Tycoon game because it looked interesting and has pretty good reviews, but once I played it, I found out it just isn't any fun, it just feels like a busywork and driving simulator rather then a buisiness simulator. Why do I have to drive around buying things for my shop? It is a video game, it's pretty standard just to have a menu to order things or have a build and buy mode that lets you drop furniture directly into your shop, but this game forces you to physcially drive around to the different shops to buy stock and furniture which is super annoying since the AI drivers get in the way constantly. Another problem is the UI is really bad for a Tycoon game, like I have to click through a bunch of different menus and it's just overall formated poorly and I have played heaps and heaps of these types of games and this has to be one of the worst UI's I have ever seen. Like it's not that the UI doesn't function, it's just designed really poorly. Once you build a shop that's it, you don't really do anything, you can just afk while the number goes up. Pretty boring. Overall I don't recommend this game. There's much better Tycoon games out there imo.
Cozy business building sim that has just enough of the real-world considerations of running a business that it makes you think, "I could do this in real-life". Doesn't require you to be savvy with spreadsheets for high success, but the CSV exporter is built into the game if that is what tickles your fancy. This game was constantly improving itself and listening to player feedback during the EA period, so they will be good stewards after full release. If you are the kind that can be patient with yourself, learn from your mistakes, like incremental progression and not expect endgame success within the first 5 minutes, than this sim game is for you.
A business simulator that has no graphs. You can't see your week over week performance, are you really progressing? You also cannot view how much you are paying each employee. You only see the total salary cost, but no breakdown. Under the employee view there are columns for hourly rate and scheduled hours. How hard to add weekly cost? What about weekly cost for deliveries? So much is missing from this game that seems to be basic business management pre-requirements. My last gripe is the image of Uncle Fred. He looks, and in-game sounds like someone that would be targeted in the me-too movement. Can you add some diversity to this game so I don't feel like my aim is to end up looking like a complete you know what? Disgusting.
