Beyond the Void

I'm usually not a fan of MOBAs, but I love this one, because it's mixed with an RTS, and probably because it's not 5v5 but 1v1, so I don't lose because of my team and - more importantly - my team doesn't lose because of me. xD Graphics and musics are nice, plus it's in space! I'm in space! SPAAAAACE! xD It's in early acces for now, so there are a few issues of course, but I have faith in the team, they will be fixed. A 2v2 mode would be perfect to play with a friend, and it's planned. :)

"Beyond the Void" is an abandoned low poly "MOBA" game, a 1v1 RTS where you control a mother ship and a bunch of creeps (little ships in this case), harvest resources... I think it might have worked but the focus on PvP instead of adding single player content, as well as refusing to use Steamworks and trying to harvest people's email addresses for the purpose of either junk mail or profiling and data collection deterred a lot of gamers. Yeah, there's no reason not to use Steamworks apart from shady ones. As a gamer, theres [b]never[/b] any justification for a developer needing your personal email address. Creepy. Anyway the developer seems to have pulled the plug, there's no back end server so this can't be played. It's a dead game, polluting the store. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, and the email harvesting bit does imply the developer was monetizing the game some other way... remember, if the product is free, YOU are the product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at less than 100 concurrent players, they couldn't even break three figures, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. Because this can't be played, don't waste your time.
