Beyond a Total Loss is a darkly humorous 2D action-adventure (with a dash of survival horror) about a balding moustachioed dim-witted drunk called John Harry, who comes to the conclusion that signing an unreadable contract in exchange for a gun maybe isn't the best of ideas.

Disclaimer: I got my copy from the developers for testing purposes. Although this seems like a difficult game from the start (I died a lot) the game is very fair and gives good subtle hints on what to do and how to use items. The general experience was very good; clunky gameplay (in a very funny and good way!), dark humor and a great Indie art style. The graphics are simple and old skool. This fits the character of the game very well. The color schemes are well chosen, it makes the world look dark, grimy and the protagonist looks like a disgusting slimy dude, Gameplay is clunky in a good old fashioned way; it takes some getting used to but I never found it frustrating. The inventory system works great and you get rewarded for proper inventory management (use wine and beers, save your cocktail ingredients!). Story is although not very long (takes about 6 hours) very funny. The game gives you choices, which can make you look like the slimy person you are. There are some choices which punish you severely, so keep that in mind. The save system works great. In addition, there are some auto save points scattered around, altough rare. Replayability: because the game is short and has multiple endings it gives you reason to play again. Your second playthrough should be much easier than the first. Would def play again, and if the developers create a new game, would gladly test or buy it.
Sign the damn contract now, buy this game, it's worth it!
I found this game while using the relatively-new Steam Labs feature, Deep Dive. One of my favorite games of all time is Lisa: The Painful RPG, and I was looking for other similar games. I kept looking and seeing mostly games that I had already known about or played. It was then that I switched all columns to "Hidden Gems". After refreshing the page for new content a few times, I saw this game. I thought it looked very interesting, and put it on my wishlist. A few months later, I got an e-mail from steam that this game was on sale. I had completely forgotten about it, but revisiting it I couldn't just pass it up for a mere 5.99. Knowing how great the game is now, I would definitely reccomend buying it even at full price. It's worth it. I believe this game is best described as the category that I found it under: A hidden gem. As of the time of writing this, the game has 100% positive reviews. Not many reviews, but each and every of them are positive. This game is amazing, but relatively unknown. It's truly an indie gem. Personally, indie games are my favorites out there. I love the passion and creative expression that you can see in games made by one person with one vision, or just a few people. This game has that certain charm to it that makes me keep searching for new indie games whenever I can. Please, buy this game, and support the developer. He seems like a dope dude, and is super active in helping anyone in steam discussions or through email. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go finish the other endings in this game and be sad as hell when I've seen all there is to see.

Achievements No guns! Finish the game without having accepted the gun.
The only reason I said yes is because the game play and speech was fun, but there was an issue, it was when i got to the sixth room to fight the lady it wouldn't allow me up the elevator, even the npc's would tell me to go up the elevator, but it never worked so that's where I stopped playing.
Just finished the the game and really enjoyed it, there are many details and a lot of effort was put into it. It was a great old school adventure with some interesting twists and funny dialogues. If you are not sure, there is a demo.
The graphic style is a bit trashy, but okay has similarities with Southpark. :) The gameplay is pretty cool though, reminds me a bit of Another World / Flashback and I love both games, so I like this game too :)
If you were born in the golden era and experienced the late 80s and 90s games then this game will bring you around 10 hours of pure joy. Zak McKraken and Maniac Mansion like totally over the top/bonkers story about a drunkard lowlife who must leap out of his comfort zone in order to survive a set of not so ordinary ordeals. Of course you must steer this Torrente kind of guy through all kinds of hardships sprinkled with a good set of well dosed dark humor, while you experience some proper background music that always supports the actual environment and as you can see, some brave graphics. There are a lot of games out there, that looks promising based on the gameplay and videos, but gets quite repetitive and shallow in an hour or so. There is just no production value, the same mechanics all over the place and nothing out of ordinary that would bring out the curiosity from the player. NOT IN THIS CASE!! Beyond a Total Loss always have something in the surprise bag that will keep you awake and drives you even more to solve this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing that makes your life miserable. Alcohol is the bread and butter of everything. If you are exhausted, beaten or bitten, just sip some gin or vodka and you'll feel refreshed again. If you want to change your perfect outfit, that's also possible, of course for alcohol in exchange. But why would yo do so if you can mix cocktails that will extend your life or give you special abilities? And of course you will have to manage your inventory, since all those bottles and firearms take up a lot of space. An absolute gem! If you are bored with AAA games and their shiny raytrance graphics and with 200 million EUR budget, but you are still hesitating, then just hit yourself in the head with a baseball bat or ask someone to slap you! Now is the time to whip out your credit card and pay that almost 10 bucks and fasten your seat belts. I hope so that the devs have not spent their fortune on drowning their sorrows in alcohol and that resulted in premature death, because they must provide the universe with more games like these. Job well done!
