Batman: Arkham City - Game of the Year Edition

not my type of game, if you like games that make you do a very specific line of events to complete a goal, that are not explained well, then sure. if you want to watch 30 - seconds of repeated "you lose bat boy" every time you dont do "the thing" right or die, sure. if you like re watching the entire cutscene every time you die. sure. me, no way. absolute garbage. 30 minutes in, 5 failed attempts at the first hostage rescue, no clean line of what to do. followed what was said to do, and it didnt work. im not wasting my time on this game.

This game allowed me to escape the abuse of my childhood.

[spoiler]BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM BUT CATWOMAN AND ROBIN SHOW UP AS WELL???[/spoiler] Truly enjoyed this game and the story is nice enough, a little disappointed with the tygers showing up so late in the story since they're quite the presence around the city. Compared to the first game the Map also felt larger which for a "do everything" person like me feels overwhelming. Ivy, Catwoman and Harley showing up though?? GIVE THEM THEIR OWN GAME!!!

So this game doesn't hold up. The writing is incredibly, distractingly bad. The boss fights are atrocious. The combat is... fine to good, but it's honestly been significantly improved by other development teams in the intervening years so if you've played another game that borrows heavily from this one it's probably going to feel clunky. The voice acting is great, at least.

I recommend this if only as a distraction. It's a game of constant noise. The plot is paper thin but the fighting is fun and it's nice to hear the old voice actors back. The Catwoman sections feel like a bit of a slog as they were originally just DLC. It's a sea of icons and tasks to do to make sure you don't resell your ps3 copy back to gamestop in three days back in the early 2010s. It is grotesque in a way that could only look good in the Xbox 360 era.
