Peak game, probably my favorite. The devs put genuine passion into it, and they're still updating it over a decade later (albeit at a slow pace). You'll probably die a lot at the beginning when you know nothing, and if that frustrates you more than it motivates you, this might not be your game. But looking back, those early runs were some of my favorites. If you have some friends, this game plays even better with a party. Lowkey met my best friend over this game. It has decent replayability while you're still learning, but once you know everything and have done a couple of full runs, it does start to get a bit stale. Nevertheless, the time I've spent on this game is some of the most fun I've had in gaming. If you can catch it on sale, it's an easy pickup. Just don't be like me playing mechanist and hogging so much scrap that you can barely move. The rest of the party won't be too happy waiting for you to drag yourself over to the exit.

As much as i tried to force myself to like this game i couldnt, hard roguelikes usually feel fair and fun to learn despite the fact you'll die a lot and probably beat the game for the first time after a long time, but barony doesnt feel fun to learn at all, the levels are very monotone and bland overall a lot of deaths feel straight up unfair and inevitable if you like games that feel actually rewarding to learn and not absolutely frustrating and rage inducing this game isnt for you either. Also most of the classes and all races but humans are locked behind paywalls.
