Amicalement, Le pasteur .

An Adventurer's Gallantry is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. Well there's nothing much to say about this, it's square in the middle of e-books from high school anime club dropout fan-fiction writers. Fantasy anime theme, cringe inducingly awful writing, badly done, slapped together with Ren'Py (no actual game development took place) and of course the primary subject is the authors imaginary anime girlfriend. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the e-book peaked at only 4 concurrent readers... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. The funny thing is, if you wanted to print this book, you'd only need to print 4 copies to satsify the entire world's demand for it. While this E-book is "free", you can get better quality, professionally written books and comics for free online (from places like Project Gutenberg) or from public libraries. Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
🛡️ An Adventurer's Gallantry - A quiet fantasy of struggle and healing The situation Oren faces at the start hit close to home—feelings of unworthiness, failure to adapt, and the urge to give up, to just sink into self-pity and hate. Thankfully, he had Litia, even if he didn’t think he needed her. With her help, he slowly recovers. This kinetic visual novel explores emotional struggles in a fantasy setting. It left me thinking, mourning, healing. The repetitive music wore on me a little, but otherwise this is a solid, meaningful piece. Stay through the credits—there’s more. Trust me. Struggle Rating: ★★★☆☆ – Emotionally resonant. Gently paced. Minor music fatigue. Xjur: Struggled through, but still standing. On to the next!
This is the first visual novel I’ve played that is entirely linear without any puzzles. And I was very impressed, especially considering it is a free game. The story is engaging and rattles along quickly, combined with the good artwork I’d say this is well worth a play.
Short, free and with decent plot VN in Zetsubou style, if you have played any of their games or fan of VNs, you'd not be missing by going through this one. This is standard VN, and because of the length there are zero choices in game, it's linear story from start to finish, where you are just watching events unfold. As with lots of other short VNs - visuals are nothing to write home about. Backgrounds are indistinguishable from any other average VN, characters are slightly distinct in Zetsubou style, not pieces of art, but good enough to look at without any issues. Audio is present, that's all you need to know about it ^^. Plot is about simple journey to realization of your life's goal, by switching a road to reach it, while staying true to the destination.
The story didn't have any choices which I kind of was expecting but despite that I liked it a lot anyway! The characters are very cute together and I like the overall story. The music sounded nice as well which I enjoyed. My only problem was that I felt like there was a lot of filler, but I also think that's a personal thing and not a game problem. The story despite that wasn't too long and in the future I'd definitely read it again
