Giving the game a positive, as there is no mixed review, wanted to throw something other than red out there, and I would give the game a 6 or 7 out of 10, not great but not bad. As someone who did not play the first Fireteam Elite the big thing that kept me away from this was the price. While I enjoy the Aliens franchise, there are plenty of other horde shooters/alien/xenos horde shooters at other price points and with more amounts of content. The thoughts while playing that would reoccur to me would be about other games. The cover system? Decent, but The Division 2's is better. Last stand/hold outs? Helldivers 2. Smooth melee/ranged gameplay? Darktide/Vermintide. Differences in locations? Space Marine 2. One issue for me is the lack of non-campaign missions and the missions that are present don't lend much to replayability as their trigger points for hordes will commonly be the same. There doesn't seem to be a game master system in place to throw out creatures/waves at random to change things up. The game stutters a bit and I had my interact key (F) stop working one run. Would recommend on sale
Here is the summary of my first impressions for the AFE 2: - I've enjoyed to play first AFE, unifying action co-op with aliens on top of the Alien movies story - Developers have nicely built this game on the outlines of the first AFE - The maps and the equipment are much more detailed, characters are more customizable - Team of 4 is more joyful that it introduces more interaction and requires a better coordination - Gameplay is more tense and graphics, sound effects are much more sophisticated - Considering negative comments, yes, there are some issues to be resolved, those much likely to be resolved by some upgrades in the near future Overall, this is a great co-op game which I've enjoyed to play and also would be happy to play in the future releases.
FUN GAME
I would not recommend this game for the following reasons: 1. The current build still contains many game-breaking bugs. 2. The price. It's too expensive for what you get. I think $20-$30 would be more reasonable. A list of bugs I've personally encountered (many more than once): [Major] 1. The host drops. When the game restarts, you're stuck in a part of the level you can't move past (e.g., a door won't open). You have to quit. 2. You get stuck in some part of the level (e.g., railing, a box, etc.). You have to quit. 3. You lag a little back from your team and a level door closes and you can't leave. You have to quit. 4. Server disconnects. Especially frustrating in horde mode where you appear to lose 100% of your rewards when your game is dropped. [Minor] 1. Can't pick up items. 2. After a host drops, and you are loading back into the game, enemies are already attacking you before your game has started. 3. Enemies, mostly drones, are glitching (stuttering) across your screen. 4. Can't progress past a checkpoint because there is a single enemy lurking close by. This enemy could be on a different floor of the building. When everything works, I enjoy the game. Because I'm a huge fan of the universe, I'd still probably spend the $50 -- even knowing what I do now. The game needed a little more polish before release, IMO.
FUN AND FUN AND FUN. Play with friends tho
The price is premium yet the game itself doesnt feel premium. Gameplay is actually fun, but the rest is straight up dogshxzcit, especially the dialogue and performance. Dialogue is filled to the brim with so much millenials dumpster fire writing. Performance especially when playing multiplayer is also not good. Crash, host left the game, lags, delay. Solo on the other hand works fine at least in my experience. Various bugs ranging from minor such as unable to pick up loot to more major bugs such as mission not progressing (this one is very much a fatal bug they HAVE to fix this quickly). Enemy movement is also stuttering when playing multiplayer. No text chat, no testing area to test builds, forced friendly fire on higher difficulty match, unable to skip cutscene, bots doesnt have a class so they only use guns, player unable to join in the middle of a match. And then obviously the price. In my country this game cost almost or the same as other "heavyweight" games such as Crimson Desert, Borderlands 4, AC Shadows, Pragmata, Diablo 4, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Cyberpunk 2077, Stalker 2 and much more. Just put this game between those games and you can see how out of place this game is. Or maybe lets just compare the price of this game with other horde shooter games such as Darktide, SM2, HD2, DRG, or PD2. This game is the priciest horde shooter game yet there is still lots of problem with it. I mean i guess the price is fine if the game itself is actually a great game, from the story, writing, dialogue, graphics, gameplay, and performance. But thats clearly not the case here. Once again, im genuinely having fun with the gameplay, shooting horde of aliens, making builds, i enjoy them. But in its current state this game doesnt feel finished. Dare i say this game is still on "Early Access". Either the devs have to fix those problem very quickly or reduce the price of this game, or else im sure the player count will slowly reduced once theyre bored, and then not many people buying this game, which will lead to financial problems then finally reaching abandonment. Hopefully that wont be the case here.
Fun game. Neat guns, cool aliens and fun horde mechanics. A bit buggy, story is at least better than dark tide's story, some cinematics doesn't render your character invulnerable and can cause you to die by hostiles if they're nearby. A little more polish and this game will be way better than the first one.
Never played the first one. It's fun to shoot aliens with friends, or even with randoms. Story and voice acting are hit and miss, mostly miss. The moment to moment gameplay however is very solid. Lots of tension and chaos. Lots of stuff to unlock then level up and the build crafting has been great so far. It's a little jank but it's fun. Some minor bugs, but nothing that won't get sorted I'm sure.
The Patches have removed the stuttering of the game for me. Like the different classes and the ability to build my own class.
A fun mindless coop run and gun, parts of gameplay improved from the previous Fireteam Elite. Better character creation and some fun dialogue choices with the crew. While some of the dialogue was a bit cringey for a rough and tough Marine unit, looking at you Piper, overall good. Fairly samey but I'd say worth it if you enjoy the genre and IP :) Happy to see a sequel and hope we get more.
