Quite bad, doesn't worth the price right now. It was obviously rushed, you see signs everywhere - characters repeat same sentences through dialogue, game doesn't remember some menu settings like region, stuff doesn't unlock when it should, there are pathing issues, AI issues. Game stutters, some players experience soft locks as doors won't open or tasks won't progress. Matchmaking is bad and coop games are unstable. Then there are balancing issues where some classes are starving for ammo even on casual difficulty, perks unlock before you unlock ability they are tied to. Levels are filled with fog that removes your ability to see enemies at all. Cover doesn't work sometimes, enemies shoot through walls, items clip through textures. UI is a barely working mess that can't display/update items properly, lacks filter options where it should (perks). Slow and unresponsive controls, weird interactions with additional items (like trying to use stimms or switch grenade type). Then you have bad story with bad dialogues and bad cutscenes. In prologue where we are searching for missing comrade, we open door to room where he is hiding with a blowtorch. But fellow rushes at as with gun expecting aliens! As if any alien can use a friggin BLOWTORCH! Or synth who says she will tell us if she "remembers" more. Synths have memory issues now? Who wrote this crap?
Kinda sucks, cos I do enjoy the game, but... Get fireteam 1, it's better. If you already have fireteam 1, just know, fireteam 2 is much, much worse. First the Pros: the Specialist is a great idea, turning the hand guns of fireteam 1 into sidearms in fireteam 2 was smart. Cons... : The classes just don't feel as impactful, the synth companions are even dumber and more useless than the previous game (their habit of just standing in a group, watching you, not firing a shot and getting mauled by things is infuriating cos it's like 25% of what they do!), there are so many game bugs, elemental damage is underutilised, the class abilities just don't feel as good are were better synergised in the first game. The story is non existent, WY scientist does WY scientist thing... it doesn't tie into the various lores as well as the first. And the voice acting, oh god, what the actual hell? The actors are performing fine, but they aren't colonial marines, they are the scooby gang from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They took the most annoying character from the first game and gave her a commanding role, they added even more annoying characters, and they collectively suck ALL atmosphere from the game. And the male player marine sounds like he's trying to be Zap Brannigan from Futurama! It doesn't feel Aliens, it feels Buffy, it feels kiddy friendly and soo damned annoying. Especially Piper, what maniac writer and voice director thought that 'gosh I'm such an eccentric and awkward nerd!' trope belonged anywhere near a xenomorph hive! And they don't shut up! And then you have to replay the levels cos there just aren't enough, and listen to them again, and again. What were the devs thinking? I really want to like this game more than I do, I'm still playing it and I have fun in co-op, but it's certainly not the experience I was hoping for, and I'm utterly flabbergasted that it's so much worse than the previous game, and in all the ways people complained about the first game, they made those specific things even more annoying. o.O So... yeah. Shame.
There’s something off about the feel of this game. It feels like they wanted a continuation but threw the original out the window. Playing with randoms is a mess. People sprint way ahead while others lag behind, then scripted doors slam shut and split the team. There are no failsafes, so you get softlocked. Good luck when that happens. The guns look and sound fine, but besides small functional differences there’s no real reason to pick one over another except looks or chasing the DPS number. Gameplay itself doesn’t feel good. The pacing is World War Z with aliens and synths that auto-track you. It turns into an arcade shooter. Maps are split into chapters with mini-missions that connect, but the story is so watered down I don’t even pay attention when the unskippable cutscenes kick in. They had the template. Fireteam Elite 1 worked. My disappointment also comes from the environments. The first game was linear, but the spaces felt huge. Everything was massive. This one shrinks it all into a corridor run: start at the beginning, get to the end. No real mid-mission objectives. No setting up a hold point against a random horde, just scripted spawn waves. The hidden stalkers were actually threatening in the first game because you’d get caught if you wandered. Here you can see them before they even do anything. Disappointing sequel. The first game had scale and tension. This one feels smaller, safer, and sloppier.
In it's current state the game isn't ready for launch. I've been stuck in a wall multiple times, I can't pick up first aids kits intermittently, my character gets magnetized to the floor sometimes stopping me from running or walking very fast, enemies glitch out and don't move, and the difficulty is completely broken. Unless you have 4 players, you will struggle to finish even an intense level mission. I've finished Fireteam 1 on Insane difficulty, so I'm not a newb. The game shouldn't be designed around 4 players when you will struggle to find 4 players to play with in matchmaking. (Feel free to add me if you're in the Oceania region)
FIX YOUR DAMN GAME
Hell yeah fam! The WHOLE gangs here! We got scar faced bull ♥♥♥♥ ship captain, super girlboss asian lady, oddly off color upbeat naive ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ british girlboss, and generic fembot girlboss! They absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the mission up but they're gonna fix everything with a little help from stupid jokes male pilot and the stereotyped wise mexican mechanic. Can you believe they're experimenting on Xenos AGAIN?! My god we've all gotta stop the evil white female scientist before it's too late!! Thank god we have the power of friendship and implied lesbianism on our side. With a team this diverse there's no way we can lose! Grease up Marines! It's time to SLAYYYYYY. Story 0/10...couldnt mash W fast enough everytime they FORCED me to talk to one of these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in between EVERY mission. Killing bugs gets old fast. Gameplay 7/10 then quickly becomes boring. Save your money. It'll take a miracle to retain player numbers
