Noticed this game needed 1 more review to get an Overall rating so I went ahead with it. Its a good nifty game, graphics are nothing special but the heart is in the gameplay.
Alien Blitz is an indie action shooter that embraces a classic arcade-inspired formula while adding modern progression mechanics to keep players invested over the long term. Developed and published by Jean-Baptiste Simillon, the game places players in the middle of an extraterrestrial invasion where a once-peaceful island becomes the target of hostile alien forces. Rather than focusing on an elaborate storyline, the game immediately throws players into the action, relying on fast-paced combat and constant enemy encounters to drive the experience forward. This straightforward approach works well for the genre, allowing the gameplay to remain the center of attention from beginning to end. The core gameplay combines top-down shooting with bullet-hell influences, creating battles that demand both quick reflexes and careful positioning. Enemy projectiles frequently flood the screen, forcing players to dodge incoming attacks while simultaneously eliminating waves of alien creatures. The action remains consistently energetic, and the increasing number of enemies creates a satisfying sense of escalation as players progress through the campaign. Despite its relatively simple presentation, the game manages to maintain a good level of intensity, especially during later stages when survival depends on mastering movement and making effective use of upgraded equipment. One of the strongest aspects of Alien Blitz is its progression system. Players gain experience points through combat, gradually leveling up and unlocking improvements that make future encounters more manageable. The game features fourteen different weapons that can be enhanced in several ways, including increased damage, improved accuracy, faster reload speeds, and stronger projectile performance. This customization allows players to experiment with different builds and adapt their arsenal to suit their preferred playstyle. The steady sense of growth helps prevent the gameplay from becoming repetitive and encourages continued investment throughout the campaign. Content quantity is another area where the game performs surprisingly well. The campaign includes dozens of maps along with several hidden stages that reward exploration and persistence. These secret levels provide additional challenges and encourage players to revisit areas in search of content they may have initially overlooked. Beyond the main campaign, multiple difficulty settings and New Game Plus modes extend the game's lifespan considerably. Higher difficulty levels transform familiar stages into much tougher tests of skill, making repeat playthroughs feel worthwhile rather than redundant. Alien Blitz also benefits from its support for user-generated content. The inclusion of a level editor allows players to create their own stages and share them with others through the Steam Workshop. This feature adds substantial replay value and demonstrates a commitment to community involvement that is uncommon in many small-scale indie releases. Creative players can design entirely new challenges, while others can enjoy a growing collection of community-made content that expands the game beyond its original scope. Visually, the game prioritizes functionality over spectacle. The graphics are simple and clearly designed to support gameplay rather than impress through technical achievements. Environments, enemy designs, and visual effects effectively communicate important information without cluttering the screen. While players seeking cutting-edge visuals may find the presentation modest, the clean design helps maintain readability during chaotic firefights where dozens of projectiles and enemies can appear simultaneously. The sound design serves its purpose by complementing the action with energetic effects and feedback that reinforce the impact of combat. Explosions, weapon fire, and enemy encounters contribute to the arcade atmosphere, helping the game maintain momentum throughout lengthy play sessions. Combined with the progression systems and variety of weapons, the audiovisual presentation supports the game's focus on continuous action and player empowerment. Alien Blitz ultimately succeeds by understanding exactly what it wants to be. It does not attempt to compete with larger-budget shooters through cinematic storytelling or advanced graphics. Instead, it focuses on delivering satisfying combat, meaningful progression, numerous stages, and a healthy amount of replayability. The combination of weapon upgrades, leveling mechanics, hidden content, New Game Plus modes, and Workshop integration creates a package that offers more depth than its modest appearance initially suggests. While some players may desire greater visual polish or narrative complexity, fans of arcade shooters and bullet-heavy action games will find a rewarding experience that consistently delivers on its core gameplay promises. Alien Blitz is basically a knockoff of Doom as a top-down shooter. Somehow, it's not even the only game I've played along these lines, but it's a pretty distinctly mediocre one, with oddly grindy weapon upgrade mechanics, bullet sponge bosses, and dubious level design, which are all negative departures from, well, Doom. Also, the Steam Workshop functionality has either been disabled or was never enabled. Not recommended.
This game is amazing!!! A little rough around the edges as they say, but if you’re the type of gamer who likes to poke around looking for secrets, and aren’t turned off by the graphic style, you’ll love it! I’d love to see a remake of this one day, with a graphic style something like uragun, or armored cavalry.

I wanted to give this little game a thumbs up, but honestly I can't. If this was a mobile game, I absolutely would. As a PC game, I can't. The controls are tight, the game itself is mechanically sound and sort of fun. The problem is that this has not aged well. It's hard to spot enemies as everything is a box. That, to me is a major design flaw rather than reflecting the difficulty of the game. (It's not difficult, it actually seems fair and balanced If I could leave a neutral review, I would. It's not bad, it's not good. It's a game.
A fun little top-down shooter, inspired by Doom. Nothing earth-shattering, but polished.
This game is pretty much top-down Doom with a new coat of paint, purchasable upgrades, and light RPG elements. Moving, shooting, dodging feels exactly like Doom. So, if you like old school Doom, you'll like this.
Very fun top down shooter that is reminiscent of doom/quake. Good weapons, enjoyable sounds, great level design and interesting music. Lots of achievements and in-game challenges to give it some replay value.
Un juego sencillo, aparentemente, pero me ha encantado. Me recuerda a aquellos juegos de los 80, pero mezclado con un juego en 3D visto desde arriba. Es muy bueno. :)
