"Alice Through the Fey Realm" is just another student project dumped onto the Steam store, one of thousands. It's from Breda University of Applied Sciece. Student projects might look better than amateur shovelware, but they aren't real games. This is just a glorified homework assignment. It lacks the depth and value you get from professionally developed product because it was made for a grade, not for players. The game features basic running around, talking to NPCs (a lot), and rolling dice as a minigame to complete game challenges as they come up. The dice rolling minigame doesn't work cleanly with the rest of the experience. But that's the least of the problems here. Schools shouldn't be using Steam to show off student projects. It might be fine for the school's marketing, but it clutters the Steam store with pollution... we have to sort past all these short student tech demos just so we can find real, full games from professional developers. This is a case of a game dev college putting its own interests before the interests of gamers. The students made a console-esque top down 3D rendered adventure/RPG where they exhumed the corpse of Lewis Carroll to make a derivative work from his opus, Alice in Wonderland. I say they "made" it, they didn't, it's abandoned on Steam in an incomplete state. You can start to see why student projects aren't so inocuous now... unfinished and broken games have no value for us PC gamers. We want complete products. That's not too much to ask, is it? Apparently it is, thanks to Steam Direct. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." So you'll spend a huge amount of time not playing the game, but clicking through endless lines of poorly written VN text cutscenes because the developers couldn't work out how to relate their narrative through the game mechanics, and decided instead it would be better to compete with reading a book for your time. We're here to play games, not read through hours of garbage intersituals. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. Despite not being in Early Access, it's obvious this is an incomplete product. Developers have an obligation to deliver complete, not partially done products to gamers, that shouldn't be controversial. Whatever the excuses may be, it does no service to gamers for incomplete products polluting Steam like this. It makes it harder for gamers to find complete games, and it makes it harder for ethical developers who do the right thing to find their audience. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of only 11 players, it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. This student project/tech demo/glorified homework assignment provides no Steam profile benefits, no +1 to your game count, and little value to gamers (because it's just a small, unpolished student project), so I can't recommend this over the thousands of full, professionally made games on Steam.

Great game and fun how they used the mechanics of a simple dice game in such a creative way! The art and world also feels alive. All and all, if you got some time and are looking for something to give a try. For sure do try this out!
Very boring. Very small town. Too much back and forth for petty things. Often, "missions" are completed with die rolls... but you seem to succeed at the mission even if you lose a die roll. I didn't like this game at all.
Игра Alice Through the Fey Realm — это великолепное путешествие в сюрреалистичную сказку.
I think the game has a good concept, but it's not as much fun to play. I think this is good for a free game, but it leaves some things to be desired in terms of movement (not great for WASD but worked better as point and click) and I'm not sure if I finished the game or not because the game just stopped working after I did the last task. Re-loading the game made it so I could move but could not interact with anyone. Would be cool to see a more fully-fledged game that expands on this one in the future, since I like how there are a few ways to approach things in the game. The dice mechanic is interesting, but not my favorite for a game this short, so it would be interesting to see it in a larger game. I also love the characters and the world that is going on.
It's a cute game. It can get tedious to do only fetching quests but the rolling dice conditions make it fun. I am also glad that when you fail the rolling dice conditions, you can still finish the quests in other ways. Love the designs of characters, I just wished there were more.
Adorable game and it has potential but it needs more <3
Bit boring, Visual Nove, in a way which I have tried and just dont like. There is a bug in the game anyway where the tooltip stays on screen adn wont go away. Music loops so cvan get bit frustrating. Hard pass. Quit after 10 minutes

Jak na grę za darmo jest naprawdę dobrze. Ale nie będę przechodził kilka razy aby zdobyć wszystkie osiągniecia. Zwłaszcza, że sporo zależy od losowości.
