Age of Wonders 4 is the latest and honestly best installment in an excellent serie of fantasy 4x games by Triumph, surpassing easily even AoW2 Shadow Magic. At the moment, I'd say it is simply the best fantasy 4x ever made. Most fulfilling, most rewarding, most interesting, most replayable. It has everything one might seek in a game like this. - BOTH WIDE and DEEP strategy options - Tactical combat, rewarding, easy to learn but with several intricacies that make for a long mastering experience - Spellcasting both at the strategic and tactical level - City building - All the 4X you might want - Map interaction with Wonders to tame and Quests - Enormous customization options - Excellent GUI, tooltips and UX - Aggressive and decent AI, with rewarding diplomatic system, including with free cities - Multiplayer, including async, and mod support. Do not be fooled into overlooking due to the paradox 'model', the game has already everything that it needs without DLCS, they only add to the width and the depth of it. All major features are in the base game, and you don't need DLCs to unlock them. Triumph is the one making the game, paradox is just the publisher.
I have enjoyed this game for over 100 hours so far. There are so many options that I'm sure I'll be playing another 100, to say the least.
A 4X sandbox experience like none other utilizing a lot of mechanics introduced by Planetfall, yet likely inspired by games like Fallen Enchantress. What it sacrifices in depth, it makes up for in customization. This is a double edged sword in most cases, but the game is quite enjoyable for what it is. However, if you're coming from old school AoW, you may be disappointed by the lack of a proper single player campaign. The plot is told in story realms, which contain similar elements but are always generated with a random seed. Otherwise you're just playing on a random map that you've likely customized, with races and factions that you've likely customized as well. Despite all the whining about Paradox and their business model, Triumph is a solid developer, and the cost of the DLC goes toward paying their salaries so they're able to keep producing content. It's quite simple and no different than buying many similar products like a Street Fighter Season Pass. The game has seen a lot of growth in the past three years, and over many DLCs. Even without all the expansions, the base game's content is impressive enough and well worth it to see for yourself if you can get it on sale.
Great mechanics and plenty of intricate styles to win in various ways. This game can be replayed so much, I'm currently playing a campaign where I've built the Knights of Caliban :D get creative!
So many options, you can get lost just in the sheer amount of different possible choices and playstyles.
COOL , MAKE MORE CONTENT I LOVE IT

太上头了!
Love a 4X game with enough balance and options you can truly role play as your character and the strategy associated feels intuitive. I just played as the rat-folk with lots of war mongering, swarming tactics and did not feel as if I had to break my role to win. A hidden gem in the strategy space. Really wonderful stuff.
The best turn-based game IMO !!!
