Bought the game on launch. It was okay, but lacked content. Came back 3 years later, and oh boy look at all that new stuff! So I buy $90 worth of DLC and now the game crashes on launch. After an hour of googling and manually editing the game files, I can now get past the Paradox/Triumph screens at launch and make it all the way to the title screen, where after 10 seconds of waiting I get "Age of Wonders 4 is not responding." Drivers are up to date, BIOS is up to date, I uninstalled and reinstalled three times, verified the file integrity. Nothing. Can't even get to the main menu. I played it on launch so I know my PC can run it. Very disappointing, I heard good things about the new content but I can't actually access any of it.

Crashes 99 times a minute. Absolutely unplayable at the moment. Other than that a good game.

Age of Wonders 4 taps up against a lot of the things I love about PC gaming. It became a bit of a lifesaver for me when I became disabled by chronic daily migraines with vertigo, as that condition makes most of the games I used to play very difficult for me to handle anymore. This game not only allows you to go at your own pace, picking up and playing a bit here and there while making measurable progress toward goals you set for yourself along the way, but it also scratches the worldbuilding itch for me in ways a lot of other games of this kind don't. I love Civilization 6 a lot, too, but this game's variety and encouragement to express the player's imagination, creating not only unique rulers but the very species and cultures that they lead, makes this a D&D nerd's dream come true. Highly recommended.
