Terrible tutorial. Manages to not teach anything while not allowing for any actions for an extended period.
Great worker placement / resource management game where every second/decision counts, especially at the start of rounds. But you can pause whenever you want and change stuff paused making it very strategical and not stressfull but exciting. I wish more (singleplayer) "RTS" would do this. Also great mysterious background "story" with animal people, rain, forest and the storm cycles, giving it a nice atmosphere. Though sadly not much is reaveled during the game and you can't learn more with the runs or finishing cycles. Also the finished settlements dont affect further runs much sadly and will be wiped after a cycle. You get unlocks after each settlement that are great at the beginning but later will be mostly bonuses and thus the rounds get more and more repetetive and feel less rewarding. Because you always have multiple options for food, building materials etc and multiple buildings that produce them this also makes it less diverse even with different bioms. I think less options and bigger differences between the bioms, not just cosmetics, would make the "late game" feel more varied and rewarding. The way it is you will slowly lose interest in doing more runs long before you "finish" the game or get to a meaningful conclusion. But for the first dozen of runs when your still discovering and have meaningful unlocks its fun and worth the price (and time).
Fun game until you repeatly doing the exact same thing over and over and over and over again. This isn't rogue-lite, this is just hell. (Still fun if you don't mind to repeat the same playthrough for 40 hours)
I'm an Against the Storm believer. I look forward to their survival game. I keep coming back to this game. It's good for quick sessions or long sessions, hits the sweet spot of my favorite part of city building which is the set up and potential, and the more you learn the different ways to victory, the game just keeps getting better. City builders often bore me because there is usually a specific path you take with every single city. production, okay now storage, okay now increase population, okay now expand. but this game instead forces each settlement to be different, and whatever you built or focused on the last settlement isn't going to work in this location. This causes you to experiment with other buildings and processes, which causes you to expand your knowledge and just adds to your toolbelt of fun ways to get to the end. Good game and big supporter of the work.
Good game but i wish have controller support
The gameplay loop to this game is insanely rewarding. If you enjoy city builders with a fantasy twist this game will hook you. Yes you build cities over and over again, but each time you will have to navigate different variables and build out just a little bit differently. As you get deeper and deeper on runs your cities will be larger and with more hubs, but the difficulty also ratchets up challenging you as you advance. There's a massive tech tree to unlock which takes a huge amount of time to do, any many of the unlocks add even more variables to the gameplay loop. If you enjoy the first 1-2 hours of a city builder and wish you could just do that while being rewarded, this is easily the game for you. Highly recommend.
