Sometimes, it’s not the grand sagas but the quiet, introspective stories that touch us the deepest. A Hint of Purple is exactly that kind of experience, a free visual novel that explores not only art and love but also loss, identity, and the acceptance of a new self, and as a reflection on how we define ourselves, how we navigate change, and how love must adapt when life takes unexpected turns. What makes it special is the way it plays with inner monologues. Maya's conversations with her prefrontal cortex are not just a creative narrative device but also a deep exploration of self-doubt, hope, and the search for meaning. It’s almost like witnessing an internal struggle, one that we all in some way recognize. Sharp dialogue, sometimes witty, sometimes raw and unfiltered, sometimes humorous, sometimes painfully honest, and that’s precisely what makes it so real. All of this contributes to an experience that lingers, much like a painting whose full meaning only reveals itself over time.

This was a hard game to get through, it deals with themes of loss, introspection and meaning. It's beautifully written and doesn't shy away from telling a very realistic story. To be honest I'm going through a tough time in my life at the moment and going through the narrative got me pretty emotional at times but it also made me appreciate what I do have left. It's not overly long and it has a similar UI to Disco Elysium which was the reason I picked it up in the first place. I'd give it a go if you don't mind making yourself depressed for a bit. Also to note there are no auto saves and dialogue choices do not change the outcome of the story.

This game shot straight to the top of my favorite experiences. It made me tear up, made me smile, made me think, made me feel sentimental, made me remember—and then tear up again. It’s touching, thoughtful, brilliantly made, and tells the story of souls each trying their best in this world. I couldn’t play anything else after this, because it left me speechless… just in awe. Go download it, dear reader. Go experience it for yourself. <3
The idea is good. The execution is good. It is free. Yes I do recommend this game. Just be warned that it's pretty heavy.
A short visual novel about sickness, love and what it's like to care for someone. The pacing is good, the Disco Elysium inspired UI works, and the music completes the sweet and sour atmosphere. The story manages to tackle several themes in a short span, and without overstaying its welcome. Can't recommend enough :)
A lovely little short visual novel about grief, art, love, and other subtle but poignant subjects. The disco elysium Ui seems perfect for this kind of story and while the game goes on the calm but often anxious soundtrack helps greatly elevate the experience. A nice and short queer emotional story. Highly recommend
