Interesting concept, but the game is really dark, as in its hard to see anything. Very similar to Fears to Fathom Ironbark Lookout. It also threw me off a bit when the game is supposed to take place in the 90's, but you use a phone with what looks like iOS and there are references to Uber. Did not appreciate the "For some reason I am driving like a woman today" lmao.
Considering its low price, this is a really good product. I recommend this if you're into interactive narrative stories similar to Fears to Fathom. You will get around 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, depending on your pace. It's easy to tell that the developer has put a lot of effort into the making of this game. The only real 'trouble' I experienced was that the narration was a bit off, and sometimes a bit hard to follow. The result is that it's a bit hard to follow in some instances, but in the big picture, still very enjoyable narration. I had a rough time imagining what the ending was gonna be like. Just couldn't decipher it based on the information we had gotten prior to the ending, but what a great way to end the story. Definitely not what I expected. Very solid game for the price tag. It took me just over an hour and a half to beat it. The first section of the game slowed me down a bit. I found the game to be too dark at times. Still I didn't let that ruin the enjoyment. Story wise the game is interestin. Has a bit of a mystery thing goin'. I'd have liked for it to have some voice over work. Wound up readin' quit a bit. In the end, I believe we get what we're here for. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/0DMs7IBPtLo
LOVE IT THEY NEED TO MAKE MORE FIRE WATCH TOWER GAMES
This game is surprisingly well done especially for the price and I'm genuinely looking forward to what the developer creates next. The atmosphere had me tense and expecting the worst turning every corner, I LOVED the dream sequences cuz they gave me that queasy uncanny feeling. Was not expecting my jaw to be on the floor either. I streamed it live last night and it was a great experience 9/10 would recommend. Biggest issue - it was very dark indoors and in the beginning area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrqG8uiLCCc
UPDATE: changing the review to "not recommended". The game is abandoned because it hasn't received any updates to fix the issues. Developer's first project is a learning experience with a few nice ideas but also a few really bad ones. You play a recent graduate who is now looking for work because his mother wants to kick him out. After a few weeks of looking for the appropriate job, you receive an opportunity to become a fire lookout. You quickly accept it. The gameplay is similar to that of a typical walking simulator or an indie horror game. You move around and use the left mouse button to interact with objects. To provide a cinematic experience, the cursor is barely visible. Sadly, this makes it impossible to discern which objects can be interacted with. Another issue is that objectives are not displayed anywhere. If you miss the objective text, you will not know what to do until you get too far and the character reminds you what you need to do. There are no visible cues. One major critique is that you cannot return to the main menu once in the game. The only way to exit is via alt-f4. Visuals play a big role in delivering the unsettling experience. Because it takes place in 1995, there is a grainy filter on the screen that makes it appear as if you are watching via a VHS tape. Although technique is frequently used to hide weak textures or defects, I thought the visual components were decent. The majority of the features went into the home and tower, with the remainder being more or less reserved for nature. One nice feature welcomes you right when you start the game. The computer in your room works and contains a few goodies. Aside from a few photos and emails, you can play a simple shooter game for points. This can be easy overlooked because you only need to collect points if you care about achievements. What I did not enjoy was that the game is just too dark. It contributes to the mood while making it tough to navigate. The worst-case scenario involves equally awful driving section. When you are outside the car, the lights appear to travel a long distance, but when you get inside, they suddenly become useless. Also, the driving mechanics are so awful that it feels like you are driving a house. Throughout the game, you will have the opportunity to make a few selections. These are minor nuances that allow you to choose between two places or whether you want to appreciate the view from a hill. Sometimes you can respond to your family members, who send you text messages. The game is short and very similar to a beloved indie classic. After a few minutes at home to and prepare for the trip, you arrive at the lookout tower. You can communicate with a coworker in the other tower by radio and follow most of the story through text. Soon, some events occur, you walk around for a while, and then the game ends.
Do you want a game historically inaccurate, so dark you can close your eyes and see exactly whats on the screen in some scenes with a non sensical story, this game is it. Otherwise I would recommend you to pass on this one
