I played for what it was worth back in the day when it was genuinely fun. I feel scammed that I've been robbed of being able to experience that again. And then they just cheekily say they released the game in a such a buggy, pre-release state just to not have people vehemently criticize them about pushing for DLCs and cosmetic shop. It's still 'alright'-ish, but far, far, far below what it was before. It's not that fun.
This game fell off HARD. Instead of a world filled with zombies and lootable buildings where you try to survive, you get a world filled with structural architects and micro dungeons with a "correct" path where you do what devs tell you to do
I've played 7 days to die since the first months it was available to buy on steam, almost 2k hours of playing EVERY version released and most of the mods. I've also watched most of the great streamers of this game for years, a decade perhaps. And now, although Jawoodle is not my favorite 7days streamer, I watch him a lot and he is one of the greatest publicity for 7days, be it good or bad (we all thought 2.0 sucks ass, dont blame him for it). And FunPimps copyright striked him because he published videos of a version of the game YOU GAVE TO HIM. To be fair he was the first video I saw of the 3.0 and I was so happy to see the bandits and chicken coup, when it released the next monday I went directly try to see if it was in the game, it was not but I was still happy. You did something so atrocious that I can't even explain, I HATED 2.0, till it was remade I only played Darkness Falls, but I still keep up with the game. But to try to destroy a content creator that only helped the game, without any reason, and after the FunPimps was bought up and now wants to live on DLC's. I'm sad to have to say this, but I am done with 7 days to die, there is nothing that you can do to make me come back, even if you publicly apologized to Jawoodle, for me today is the day the game died to me. Good luck to anyone who will still stick to it, I had so much fun with this game, but I would never again be able to play and have fun knowing who is running it and what they are capable of.
I used to love this game, I started playing back in Alpha 16. I haven't played this game as long as a lot of other people here, but even I could see the direction of the game changing. There were always POIs with a scripted path and event triggers inside the rooms, but as development continued those became more and more common until that's all that was left. The scripted zombie triggers in every third room of a building completely invalidated stealth builds and the loot system made having to grind the POIs a hard requirement to progress. The focus on zombie pathfinding turned base building into a convoluted tower defence game. You weren't allowed to find clever ways to trick the zombies, doing so would trigger 'rage mode' and the zombies would just start attacking all structures around them, further pushing the requirement to carefully plan out a path for the zombies to follow so they wouldn't just smash their way directly to you. The constant total reworking of the skills system was tolerable but incredibly annoying as the devs clearly couldn't decide on what they wanted to do with it, but the decision to make the player into a scrawney weakling meant you had to put points into every skill tree just to be average. You can't specialize in only one skill tree, no matter how much they try to make it look like you can. Every tree has skills required just to have a decent chance of surviving, this means you die to everything in the beginning, even random wildlife, and making progress into anything you actually want to be good at is frustratingly slow. On top of that, skills aren't enough to actually learn the recipes you need to craft decent gear anymore, now you have to rely entirely on loot RNG to find enough magazines for the specific gear you want. The biggest thing that killed all of my interest in the game was the v1.0 outfit system. Before v1.0 armor and clothing was fully modular, you could mix and match 4 clothing slots and 5 armor slots, with each clothing and armor piece having attachment slots depending on it's quality for further modify your loadout. All of that was completely replaced with the new outfit system where you now need a specific outfit to do a specific task. You're not allowed to build a loadout perfectly suited to your playstyle anymore, now you have to use inventory slots to carry around entire outfit sets specialized for every specific task you want to do. This game went from a survival crafting sandbox into a poorly designed RPG. I haven't touched this game since v1.0 released and have no plans to come back unless they make drastic changes to return to when it was fun.
The game itself has been decent, but the company behind it would rather throw lawsuits at streamers than listen to the fanbase. Gameplay: 6 to 8 Customer Service: 0 to 2
The developers clearly have no idea what they even want to do and have remade this game several times. What was sold as a survival sandbox, is nothing more than a shoot and loot game at this point. After their merger with Behaviour, it has become more of a cash grab than anything else. The one good thing came in a recent update after the merger. A broader array of options was added, making it closer to the sandbox game that was originally advertised. The mod community for this game is amazing, and if you have the game already, I'd check some of them out. If this game were less than 20 USD, I'd consider it worth the value, but at 45 USD, I cannot recommend it. Watch for a sale if you're curious about this game.
Nah
This used to be my favorite game on steam. There is no game on steam that has close to the same hours for me. Sadly this isnt the same game. This game has gone so far from the vision it had. Everything was immersive. Yeah it does look prettier. Thats the one thing I can give it. But Im not really looking for a looter shooter.
10 Years ago this game was great, open world where you get to decide how to survive and endure a fun and challenging landscape. The progression made sense and the crafting was fun. Now this game has been transformed into some of the worst, boring and cruel gameplay I have ever seen. I don't know what the developers were thinking when they decided to throw away everything that made this game fun and unique. Those elements have now been replaced with a specific game design that is exactly how the dev wants you to play. There is no room for creativity. In order to progress in this game you now have to run around an enormous map looking for magazines. Want to craft a workbench to maybe craft better items, go find a bunch of forge ahead magazines. Did that and now you want to make better armor, better go find more magazines to unlock the recipes. All your time spent in this game is going to be looking for magazine after magazine just to be able to craft and do anything. The zombies are just a side distraction to delay you from finding your next magazine. Before you used to be able to craft armor and weapons in a progression that made sense, starting with weak armor and finding material to make stronger better weapons and armor. The developers thought that was too fun and instead now you get to just find magazines! To make things even more dull and boring instead of spending your time looting and exploring interesting locations and finding loot the best way to get anything done now is to grind jobs from a trader. So you take a job, go to a location kill zombies or recover supplies, return to the trader get a small pathic reward. Take the next job, then after a couple of jobs the locations repeat so you will end up going to the same locations over and over getting almost nothing of value other than MORE MAGAZINES! The grind is so mundane and boring and repetitive. I honestly don't know what mindset someone has to be in to design this and think its fun. Finally the most insulting and sad part of the game is the 7th night. It used to be something you dreaded out of fear and anticipation that you didn't have enough time to prep or build up your defenses. The 7th night hordes were fun and terrifying. Now its just a boring slog as you wait for each painful minute to tick by until day comes and you can go back to looking for more magazines. No longer do you need to build a strong fortified base, just build a tower and a death pit and you can go AFK until morning. The AI for the zombies is broken and easily abused. The 7th night is now a chore and inconvenience and is just something to delay you from finding magazines. I don't know how someone can work on something for over 10 years and it ends up worse than when it first released. There are so many better zombie games you can play then 7Days2FindMagazines.
Instead of making the game better, this company is trying to sue content creators.
