12 Memory Lane

This is a short but beautiful piece of art, and as someone who enjoys story games, it was a good hour and a half. Keep in mind this is a free game from a indi dev, and from the looks of it, the first one published. The only problems i had with it is that its poorly optimized, and i had to run it on the lowest graphics for it to run smoothly. Again, its a free game, and worth the play if your into story games (and if your computer can run it). I'm Excited to see what other games this developer may produce in the future!

12 Memory Lane is an impressive and high quality labour of love by its developers, even more so considering that it is free. It is more a walking simulator and an emotional experience, and less a game., with a strong story complemented by its voice acting. The wonderful, detailed, dizzying and ever-changing graphics reflect the failing memories of an ill & elderly man as he tries to recall the true (and mostly troubled) stories of his family in their large home. The game elements are to select the correct set of memories about a family member or a room e.g. what was their particular hobby or passion, what kind of contents or layout did a room have, etc? The game is driven by a journal, each chapter of which reflects a particular person, location, incident etc. When a complete set of (hopefully accurate) memories have been chosen, the journal reports how many are correct or incorrect; only when the whole set is ok does the next chapter begin. The game was not particularly difficult once I understood the mechanics of the journal, but I spent a comparatively long time in the tutorial before the way of selecting memories and of checking their accuracy became clear to me. There are achievements for completing each chapter and for each of the two possible endings.
