About

1-Bit Explorer is an adventure game focused on exploration where you do NOT save the world and the world does NOT need saving.
The point is to explore to your heart's content and uncover mysteries and secrets (or don't, it's up to you, really).
You are the son of Frank, regular citizen of Moneta Village, which is trying to complete his collection of Ancient Coins. Due to a disease, your father needs your help with this apparently mundane task of gathering 3 Ancient Coins. Each one requires you to explore a bit of the village and its habitants. What you might discover is that there are secrets, ghosts, other dimensions, demons and ancient Kings hiding in the corners. It is up to you to discover this mysteries.

The gameplay consists mostly of various puzzles, either being:
Conversational Puzzles:
Talk your way into making some people do as you want. Saying the right things might turn them into useful people for your quests.
Push & Pull Puzzles:
Rocks can be moved around the environment to either unblock a path or to press buttons and special locations, revealing secrets and opening new pathways.
Lever Puzzles:
Levers can be used to unblock paths, either by activating them in a certain order, activating them in a time limit or simply finding your way into them to uncover new shorcuts.
Timing Puzzles:
Some puzzles require you to do tasks in a certain time limit. Be careful with the timer, because it might be the difference between just failing or straight up dying!
Positional Puzzles:
Puzzles might require you to stand on different places in different orders. Be aware of sounds that can indicate a success or failure!
Environmental Sound Puzzles:
Some times you just need to follow your ears. Be aware of your surroundings and seek out the sounds!
Active Combat:
If you are willing to explore, you might fight your way into a battle or two. Make sure to learn the ropes with a helpful weaponsmith!
Explore, explore and explore:
The game is focused on exploration, so make sure to check every corner and talk to everyone! The world is there for you to experience and discover!

this is too good to be for free
Jugarlo gratis casi parece delito, es un juego conciso pero sorprendentemente denso, y desde luego te lleva a lugares insospechados. Muy recomendable.

What a cool game for a free game! You'll likely run into a "game over" ending very quickly, but be aware there is more to the game! It is very exploration based, although towards the end of the game there is some slight combat (and in an interesting way too, that was a bit unlike what I typically see). Lots of interesting ideas in this game, including some plot twists along the way. If I had to pick a downside, it would be that I found myself traversing back and forth across the world as I wrapped side quests up. Sure, it could've been done in a more efficient manner...but unless I missed it, there isn't any version of fast travel so you can go from Point A to Point E quickly, without going through all the other places along the way. The world isn't big, so this isn't a huge deal, but it would've been convenient! None the less, the entire game doesn't take terribly long to complete. I did end up "giving up" and looking up a guide to complete some of the last bit of collectibles within the game, because the very basic graphics made it easy (for me) to miss some of them...but they are all hidden in plain sight, so someone more attentive may not have had that problem. Irregardless, if you enjoy adventure games, especially with a "1-bit" aesthetic, then this is absolutely worth a try! Fans of RPGs will see some commonalities here as well. There appears to be a sequel and spin off on itch, as well as a future game in development for steam as well! Give it a go!
Awesome. YOu should port it to playdate and sell it for $5
I really like this game so far. Haven't 100%'ed it yet, as I've only played 75 minutes; I haven't even experienced any of the battles yet (I would mark this as a spoiler but to be entirely fair it is listed on the page and seen in the screenshots so if you're down here you'll have seen it already). But I can definitely recommend this game. It's a lot of fun to explore around, and the korok-like collectibles are also really fun. I do have some minor nitpicks, like the movement being a bit clunkier than probably intended for example, but all of those nitpicks are pretty much refuted by one simple thing: This game is free. I'd definitely pay 5 bucks for this. 10 might be stretching it but this game is defintely worth 5 bucks. There's a lot of puzzles and (most importantly) a lot of heart here, so for the low low price of free and about 3 hours of your time, I'd consider this game well worth the effort.
Newly released free to play games on steam are 90% garbage and 9% mediocre. This game is the 1%, i genuinely wouldn't mind spending money on this were i given the option. First of all, the presentation is amazing. The graphics, music and sound effects really hearkens back to the NES and Game Boy era, mainly to the early Legend of zelda titles. The game is nearly entirely monochrome, making the few things that aren't stand out even more. The exploration and puzzle solving are also superb, the map is not that big but its so packed with stuff that the world truly feels expansive. The only real criticism i have is that the "combat" is kind of lackluster, once you have the highest tier weapon you can just stand still and shoot the boss until it dies with next to no threat to you. With a non upgraded gun the fights become slogs where you spend the majority of time waiting for your stamina to regen. Still the boss fights are so few and far between that this is a minor nitpick if anything. From what i can tell this was the Devs first game, it first came out in 2023 on itchio and got ported to steam recently, i can safely say i will be playing the other games the dev put out and will be looking out for future releases.
